First low-ball offer on the '18 was $135k. Final negotiated trade-in was $150k. MSRP on it a year earlier was $178k. So I took a $28K hit.

Was it worth it to me to pay $28k (plus fees, and the tax difference between my buying price and my trade-in price, and a year's worth of insurance)(all totaled, figure I spent about $35k) to own the GT3 for a year while I waited to get the RS that I wanted? Meh, not on paper anyway. I certainly wouldn't do it repetitively during my life. But this once? I'm not mad about it. I had a heck of a good time in the GT3 while I had it.

I didn't think I would lose that much, based on the pricing trends a year ago. But markets shift. It is what it is. Sure, it's a hunk of change I'll never get back. But I turned 50 years old this year, and who knows how many years I've got left? Better to enjoy life now than regret waiting!

This ^

Is pretty much all that needs to be said.

And amgmuch, we all can understand your pain!

The topic though was a bit like clickbait. I was fully prepared to see pictures of a GT3 wrecked within an inch of its life! Ha ha.

Definitely a NASCAR moment there. Lol.

Carry on.

Haha sorry about that! At the end I am happy I got educated, brutally I might add.

As Doc said to Wyatt in Tombstone.

"There's no normal life Wyatt, there's just life."

Hate to hear about depreciation in any sense of the word. It's just an awful word altogether.

Just think about the Mercedes S Class guys or the BMW 7 Series guys that purchased new.

I'm surprised they don't jump off buildings more often.

9k miles!!! Pretty good young man!

But your going to have to do better than that!

Educated here as well. Bought mine a few months ago close to MSRP of around $182k. Just traded it for $153k, with tax savings, I net $160k. Expensive lesson, but I did thoroughly enjoy my time with it, and got it out of my system.

You are GOALS my friend! I wish I had the patience to stick to one car but I can't get rid of this undying itch to experience as many cars as I can. One of more reasons why I go though cars more often than my laundry.
I would rather jump off a cliff before I buy any of those gaudy super sized BMW & Merc sedans haha.

I traded my GT4 for a loaded 15 GT3 in December. Three weeks later I was offered a new 18 GT3 6 speed at MSRP, thank you Tyler Heinzelmann at Porsche Atlanta Perimeter. A $15k + tax hit and I never looked back. An extremely easy up front transaction. These cars are an investment in enjoyment not a financial return.

if you're fortunate enough to go through cars like your laundry, its gonna come at a cost

I gotta be honest w/you though - 9K miles in 5 months is REALLY well done!

If you can afford a $178K plus tax on car, you can afford to lose $28K. Financial sanity is not a reason to buy a fun car.

I think that’s about right. Enjoy your ownership experience. When you start thinking of the money spent, it ruins it.

despite popular wisdom, GT cars depreciate just like any other car- maybe slightly less.

The bubble is pssssst deflating. The GT3R went sky high and I have to surmise some folk took it as proxy for what GT cars would behave. Porsche exploited the market and has made a large number of these cars. They are no longer 1) hard to get 2) considered exclusive. Hint these cars are to be enjoyed...damn the cost.

Lets first see what the upcharge in MSRP will be for a 992 GT3. Based on the 718 GT4 it could be ~$35,000 which would certainly help .2 GT3 future values but who cares any way

If you live in a state where you get the tax benefit of trading it in - thats not a bad offer. But i think its a dealer trade in price. If you could sell it yourself (albeit thats a pain), i suspect you may get $145K or so. Now an RS at $10K over when you are trading in at whole sale. Thats like bending over.................... . They are fleecing you twice.

They'll CPO and sell for $150-$155K and get it for a 19. And thy are making an ADM plus regular profit on the MSRP RS. Great profit on in essence 1 transaction.
