Aurum Gold Rims - Prismatic Powder Color?
#106
Some shots of my 911 on the track and cleaned up between track events. I now have three sets of the Turbo wheels done in Arum Gold now. The set that I track has a clear coat (the two action shots and the Boardwalk shot) and my other two sets are done without clear coat (the shot on the grass)

Two coats of Satin Poly Gold with no clear. I did do two coats of CarPro CQuartz UK 3.0 on them to give some protection and ease of cleaning. I'm undecided on the look.

looks great, don’t overthink. Looks nothing like other sapphire blue (guessing color) .1’s. which is a good thing.

It looks great on your rim and the car color makes a very nice combination. Mine is a black 997.2 with the Classic II wheels. I am on the fence since I haven't seen a great picture with that wheel, but I may give the folks at Sound Wheel Works a call.
Thank you for sharing the info.

I had my GT4 wheels powder coated Satin Poly Gold to change things up. I did not do a clear coat. I am still torn with the final product and feel like the sheen is too flat/matte looking in person. The center cap color match came out perfect and I am waiting for some black vinyl GT4 letters that I have ordered.

If your by chance interested in another Rennlist opinion ???
If that was mine I'd have those removed and "Definitely-Clear-Coated" for the Extra-Sheen !!!
Your Bright Red with those wheels looks AWESOME buddy.
More Sheen wouldn't hurt at all IMO.

I am very open to opinions thanks, and I am leaning toward doing something about it. I am not sure if there is any issue just adding a clear coat or if they have to be re-done. In any case the logistics are a bit of a PITA and it is going to cost me since they are all mounted up now...
But ...............
Sometimes we find out after we have done something that we wish we had done it another way.
To me and only speaking of myself I would go for it and have that Bright-Red ........... Bad-*** GT4 ......... with Super-Shiny ..........Wheels.
You know your going to do it because it's going to eat at you until you do.

Before I play powder sample roulette, I thought I would ask if anyone has powder coated a set of GT3/RS wheels with something resembling Aurum Gold. I love the look on the .2-3RS and want to replicate that look as closely as possible in powder, as these will see track duty and need the extra resilience. If you have done anything similar with Prismatic Powder and have a lead on a close color, I would appreciate your insights. I will do my best to share what I learn along the way, so that others may go this route if desired. Many thanks!
my nephew just did these for someone and I’m sure he has a few gold samples. I’ll ask him to send me a few and their names. His company is Long Island Powder Coat he’s on Instagram @lipowdercoat or @longislandpowdercoat

I ended up getting my wheels refinished. I was not happy with the Satin Poly Gold without a clear coat for multiple reasons. First, it came out too matte so they just did not pop. The color was too bronzy against my Guards Red car. Without a clear coat they were very porous and really hard to clean and keep clean.
I ordered a few color swatches from Prismatic and looked at them in multiple lighting saturations. My goal was to have an "Aurum" look but I was not fixated on matching it exactly. Mostly I wanted it to look good in my application against red. Here are the color swatches outside in sun with a direct and angled view. These are from left to right, Satin Poly Gold, Poly Gold, Walts Gold, Spanish Gold, and "Soft Clear" which is a satin or semi-gloss top coat.
Based on this I really liked the Spanish Gold. It has more metallic in it and really pops in the sun. I searched for photos of both Spanish and Aurum online and compared them in various lights.
Obviously, any color can look very different in different light and with different camera settings but to me Spanish gold is a better match to Aurum and is certainly brighter and more yellow (less bronzy). So I had a really good wheel shop in NY order the powder and refinish them for me. I am really happy with the final result. They ended up using a satin clear from another manufacturer that they prefer. They also did a killer job on the center caps!
Indoor shot with LED lighting:
Outdoor in direct sunlight they reall pop and almost look self-luminescent
Outdoor on a dirty car:
I hope my experience can help others get this right the first time...
