Tranny Regrets

When I had a manual 997TT I was really wishing I had a PDK. So for my 991.1 GT3 I had a PDK, as well as my 991.2 GTS. Never regretted the PDK for a second, so that's what I specced in my 991.2 GT3 as well. Personally I enjoy manuals more in lower horsepower cars, but in these more powerful cars that I like to drive more aggressively, a PDK works better for me since I get to extract all the performance out of the car with less effort. If I had a Boxster or something for just putting around on the weekends, I'd really love a manual.
A friend of mine got a manual GT3 and his first impression was that he didn't like it, he said it felt clunky and he missed his PDK. Not sure if that impression has changed as he's driven it more, but he didn't immediately fall in love with it.

I wouldn't have bought my .1 if PDK wasn't available. That was the main reason I upgraded from my 996.2 gen. The "BOP" sound it makes when upshifiting under hard accel is euphoric!

Its a dilemma. It used to be either manual or auto. Now we have a choice of manual and PDK and we are still faced with this dilemma. The fact is PDK is BOTH manual and auto, the best of both worlds and yet we still second guess ourselves. That's human nature.

I've had both now and it's OK to like one or the other or even both equally..... but weak to put one down to justify your choice.
That said, the 6 spd MT in this Touring is epic!!

Whatever I choose I bet I will want the other one at some point down the line. Part of me thinks better option is to keep the .1 and add a manual spyder instead of upgrading to .2.

One thing seems to be in the used market, manual is getting rarer by the day. You'll going to have a heck of a time finding a right optioned car to your liking, but chances are it wouldn't be in manual.

The Gated R8 will go down a one of the best. Although the manual in the .2 up there with the best; the clanking(on every shift) of the gated wins. The Engine in the GT3 is like no other

Given that the .2s are so new someone would have needed to make a pretty catastrophic mistake to have regrets already. Cars are still being broken in, flat shifts explored, etc. It took thousands of miles before I felt truly knew my first dual clutch car, and I’d expect most owners will need similar mileage to form a full opinion about their new GT3s.
I will say I’ve had zero regrets going manual so far. That was largely based on enough prior experience with both options to essentially know (for me) going in, but exploring flat-shifting has been an unexpected challenge (and treat).

I for one couldn't imagine my gt3 without a manual... very engaging, very smooth and easy to operate in traffic, lightening fast when needed, I'm in love. pdk for track is perfect, but on-road feels video-gamey.. boring. Loving my 6 speed. It's still not as fun to drive as my Spyder in close to street-legal speeds, but being able to shift manually in the gt3 goes a long way towards bringing some engagement back when dealing with the "driving a fast car slow" situation.
Looks like most of the market agrees judging by orders places and ADM's.
