Default Multifunction steering wheel swap in 991.2 GT3

Help please.

I really want a wood MF 991.2 wheel in my GT3. My CXX request was pocket vetoed. I called suncoast and they said won’t work because it is not listed in the parts catalog for a GT3.

There is a lot on the 991 forum about swapping the 991.2 MF wheel into a 991, but no one has done it on a GT3 (yet).

So what I need to know (I think) is whether the (1) programming is available in the GT3 to support the MF wheel and (2) whether the clock spring supports it.

As my GT3 is not here yet, I can’t check myself.

My other option is to buy the wood MF wheel and swap in the non-MF inserts, but I am not keen on that.

Why did you want a GT3 again exactly?

I’d buy the wood wheel and swap it in under the assumption that the multifunction buttons will not work, but you may be pleasantly surprised. I suspect the wiring harness is not present.

Exactly.

Porsche doesn’t supply wiring to parts not originally ordered, such as to multifunction steering wheel, 18 way seats if car orderd with LWBs, or mechanical spoiler, if fixed wing ordered with car.

They do on the 911 Carrera as this swap is doable.

ok.

On the 991 GT3 I’m 100% certain they don’t provide mechanical wiring harness to 18 way seats if ordered with 4=ways or LWB, as I’ve called Porsche about this. Also 100% sure re wiring harness for mechanical spoiler being absent in 991 GT3 ordered with wing as this clearly stated by Porsche.

Re wiring harness for steering wheel. They might use the same one for all Carreras, but no guarantee they do this for GT3 as they look for every possible way to reduce weight of GT3, more than for Carreras.
Maybe it will be there on your GT3. I hope so for your sake, but things on carrera don’t automatically carry over to GT3. Just look at seat memory, Porsche entry and drive, etc.

Yup. I know which is why I am looking for help. Maybe someone knows what to look for? I mean the MF stalk is there so maybe just a clock spring? I am hoping someone has the Porsche computer and can see if there’s MF wheel option is in there. I need to go back to the British vehicle world where this is really basic.

I think a GTS would've been a better buy.

Can’t get wood on a GTS either although you can get MF wheel so you could do the swap easily.

All I want is a genuine Porsche wood wheel. I don’t think it will look at all out of place on a touring. I think it will look great. I am not sure how this is some sort of crime against porschedom.

I agree. I think it will look good on the Touring and the most important part, it's your car get what you want. I hope you're successful in making the swap.

100% is a strong assertion having just called P about it.. do you believe everything you read on the internet too

I have performed the LWB to 18 way swap on GT4's.. i put my 18 way into a car ordered with the LWB, plugged them up, bolted them down and all 18 functions worked. a coding for an airbag light was necessary, but all functions worked immediately upon plugging the harness in.

This was a GT4, and not a GT3, but you get the point...

i guess the folks at PCNA don’t know what is or isn’t true since I asked them point blank if that would work on a GT3.

I really like the New steering wheel. The black spokes are nice rather than silver like on the wheel in the GT4. But- I do not like any switches on my steering wheel. I hate how Ferrari has their steering wheels inundated with switches

I inquired about adding a multi function wheel when ordering my .2 GT3. Answer from Porsche was 'this is not possible'. I had previously added a multi function wheel after the build to my 2010 911S and in addition to installing the steering wheel center with the controls, the dealer has to program car to make it work.

Thank you for the input! Five years, first post for my thread. So cool.

So you can’t program the 991.2 GT3 for multifunction? My wood dream looks in jeopardy.
