Default OT: 0-60mph in 1.9 sec. for $200k. How does Tesla Roadster Change Things?

I just finished watching the introduction of the Tesla Roadster, with it's absolutely astonishing performance, which destroys ANY car at ANY price.. and i start to wonder if the predictions that the 918 Spyder successor (and all it's peers) will have to be pure electric to compete. There is no gasoline engine which can do 8 second 1/4 mile, 250mph+.. and only cost $200k.

I'm wondering if sports car manufacturers aren't just waking up in Europe to this news and scrapping all their plans for their upcoming cars.

Looks like another one-trick pony...and it's three years away...so they probably haven't started working on it yet. Call me when there is a cohesive sports car available for purchase...

yea.... lets see when they actually have an actual pre production car that can do what Elon claims it can do... Right now its just a bunch of numbers on a website to generate hype.

Powertrain has some amazing figures - 200kw/h and 10,000nm (that’s what he said?!). One figure I didn’t see was the weight, but I doubt the battery will be light. For all the hype about the 2020 roadster, it was the Tesla Semi that has the greater ability to revolutionise an industry. If what he says proves correct I reckon it could be gamechanging for the truck industry.

Sounds intriguing, but first Tesla needs to learn how to figure out the process of manufacturing cars. Model 3 production is 3......will be 6 months behind schedule.

Musk can predict whatever he wants, but until he produces 10 of the new roadsters, and independent journalist confirm the numbers, I won’t believe what he’s saying.

Does it have cooling for the batteries? The model S doesn't make it through a full lap of a racetrack before going into limp mode if driven for time.

The first generation roadster was a complete waste of a lotus Elise chassis. It handled like crap. Until batteries are lightweight, not to mention actually able to propel the car driven hard without maxing out, have no interest.

So would it be fun to do a 1/4 mile that quick? Sure I guess. But that does not make it a good car. Besides, the demon would be more fun (albeit a bit slower) for the stoplight drag racer.

I dont think the world will revolutionize

A rule per its definition can be always changed

rather there will be 2 different markets

1st all digital electric tools and formula E derived funny toys

2nd nostalgic analogic non electric funny toys for us

just look music market after ppl got bored of digital
where vinyle LP discs revamped aggressively with its all round analogic listening quality

after all the nature is analogic not digital and markets and rules one day must follow the nature...

i appreciate Musk A LOT!

but:
first it have to be here in real for the puplic.
they say 2020 - lets speak again 2022.

how fast are electric cars around the track? ah ja... exactly nowhere. weight, tire problems, cooling, etc.
1/4 mile? speed on a straight? is fun for two runs. but not for all the year. thats not what a car is all about.

the eco gossip: lets focus on the production and recycling of the batteries/akkus.

Musk/Tesla is going into the dark with a bright flashlight. i heavily appreciate that.

Lets see what the MissionE will become. Lets see how it will be compared with the Model S in real.
Lets see what will be in 3 years with the Roadster and its competition.
Or lets praise it already right now? based on numbers/figures/dates? numbers said from Musk? during a Tesla low price and partly negative PR period based on delivery issues in reality.
