Default 991GT3 or AMG GTR any thoughts/advise

I am in the hunt for my next weekend car, this is strictly weekend warrior for cruising on empty highway on Sunday morning kinda car. I always love 911 platform and has been a 911 guy for the last 6-7 years. Prior to that I've had multiple AMG AND M series cars but they are no longer create the emotions and excitement of driving like 911. Well, until the Beast of Green Hell MB AMG GTR arrive. Anyone here own both or have a luxury of comparing between the two cars. Would love to hear the community opinions. TIA

I have both and also a GT3 RS. For a weekend car it is way more fun than the GT3 and RS. It also sounds better and has a better fit/finish. But, I have not taken it on the track. It has proven to be faster on the track vs a GT3 in several comparisons.

It is a more of a hooligan car than the GT3. I am shocked how capable the car is and I have been a diehard Porsche fan my whole life.

Good comparison but with your stable not sure you're qualified

JK, awesome lineup!!!....I have not even seen an AMG, in any variation, let alone heard one....my guess is they might be easier to get than the GT3 as well....from the reviews I've read and feedback like yours the car is a monster and a huge win for MB....

Harris liked the RS more than GTR

In top gear’s latest speed week this article also votes GT3.2 above the R

I have both. Agree with fastmd. In the GTR you can’t help but giggle when you drive it. But it does have its downsides.

For many euro roads is too wide. And navigating multi-story car parks are sweat inducing affairs. Visibility and practicality is not as good...but it is FUN.

However, if I could only have one, it would always be the GT3. Especially if you have never owned one before. I could easily go thru life and die happy having never owned a GTR....but I know if I had never owned and experienced a GT3, I would go to my grave unfulfilled.

GT3 is a bucket list car. GTR is not.

Get the GT3, they are as cheap as they come, plenty of value, get an extended warranty, enjoy the living **** out of it, drive to Mercedes, put a deposit on an AMG GT black series, if you don't get it, trade the GT3 for the GT-R that by that time, probably has depreciated what it has to depreciate.

This way, you get to enjoy 2 cars for the least amount of money possible.

^^ What these folks said.

I thought of the GTR... had an AMG awhile ago but the huge dang depreciation is a turnoff. This is my first ever GT3 and I absolutelyeffin love it. My bucket has a happy ending.

Get the GT3.2 is my recommendation.

There is an MB dealership right next to my office, and they use our garage for overflow inventory. I was parking a few days ago and there was a GTR two spots away from my usual space. It is the first MB I've seen in a long time that made me stop and stare.

But, seriously, if you're going to get one, buy a used one with 750 miles on it.

I doubted if I can get my hand on new 991.2GT3, my dealer has a long list already. However, there are plenty of 991GT3 in the market and pricing is good for buyer market now. There is one concern after reading the engine failure/fire on the other thread make me gun-shy. Yes, my bucket list is owning a 911 GT3 after my 997TT.

Don't, just drive it until it pops, get a 0 mile engine for all your enjoyment.
Max it will happen is that you get a Macan for 2-6 weeks while they fix your car.

See it like this, if it was an RS, you might drove the wheels off it, but the engine would endure past the mileage for an extended warranty and you would end up with a high mileage ready to pop and out of the mileage for an extended warranty, in the 991.1 gt3 (I'm fairly sure) that you will get a new engine regardless of the mileage on that engine.

So you can literally drive the hell out of it, with no worries, just get an unmodified one with warranty (CPO, 80% of them for sure still have warranty and you can extend it) and enjoy the car and the money in your pocket.

The bursting into flames issue was resolved. Porsche has extended the warranty on the 997.2 GT3 engine to 10 years. Should be a non-issue.

I love everything about the GTR. I'd buy that over any 991 in a heartbeat.
