I modded!


I told myself I wouldn’t ever mod a Porsche because they’re great as is. About $50k in mods/changes later - from GT3 carbon fiber buckets to HRE’s to Exclusive Option goodies - I’ve thrown my hands up to the mod Gods to repent.

My stupid Li-Ion battery $H1t the bed...super fun. Other than that, nothing. Although that was in the 2nd year of total ownership on the 2nd 992.

Of all cars, Dodge Hemi Challengers and Chargers seemed to want to race me at red lights the most. I stopped doing it after I beat the first three with my 7MT Carrera S (after making sure the road ahead was clear). Now I just let them blast ahead with nothing left to prove.

Left NOLA about 9:00 PM in June 1972 headed for Homestead, FL., before the interstates, in a 1970 911T. Relaxed over coffee with my parents at 9:00 AM the next morning. Good run, but the surprise was how bad the headlights were. Horrible! Reflecting today, lucky to get there at all. I immediately mounted rally lights upon the return :-) Guess that qualifies as a “first” mod.

3 months in and my glass sunroof is starting to rattle on bumpy roads. Not sure whether to accept it and live with it or go down the rabbit hole of fixes.

No one tried to race me. Prior to ordering my 911, I Turo'ed a blacked out 991.2 Carrera for four days to see if I really wanted to daily a 911 and I had at least one person try to race me every day, including an X7 down a mountain road that was apparently swerving into oncoming traffic to keep up. Blacked out cars invite trouble apparently.
