it depends on how you define manual, it is a clutch based gearbox, it does not use a torque converter - so the mechanicals aspects of the PDK are closet to a traditional manual gearbox.

^ not entirely correct.
If the PDK is in the manual position, which is the only position I use, you will bury the tach if you don’t give yank it.
And it is very difficult for me to get really good 997RS heel/toe shifts in city driving...just not enough rpms.
That said, adding manual .2 with rev match.
I hope i don’t regret...

Been there, done that. commuted DD with manual GT3 and RS (never saw anything else P-car GT related commuting) in NYC for 8 years. Never had a problem and all cars were (are, will be manual) dumped the 1.1 after 4 months of paddles...what a bore fest.

It's all semantics. For me with a manual the driver decides when the shifts happens. With an auto the computer decides when the shifts happen. So imo PDK is both depending on selected mode.

For other people manual equates to a third pedal.

Who cares really. Everyone should get what they want and not let others influence them. I'm me, I'm not Jethro, I'm not Walter, I want those aggeressive cup car like shifts.

Or anyone who bought the PDK because they are put off by the need to heel/toe should have bought the Manual and use Sport mode.

I use it sometimes. My heel-toe is adequate at best right now. Getting better at it is all part of my progression as a driver.

I've done track sessions without it. I'm getting better.

When I just want to go fast though... I go to the auto-blip and just have at it. It shows me what I'm aspiring to.

I very rarely use it on the street. Mostly just when I want to make a lot of obnoxious noises.

I do like those noises...

Can't believe no-one has yet mentioned the real reasons PDK wins out. Left foot braking and steering feel.

Left foot braking is far more rewarding than heel and toe, which is a nice, quaint, nostalgic thing. Pushing a clutch just gets boring, especially in traffic.

Left foot braking and keeping two hands at 2.45 on the wheel allows you to maximize the feel of a brilliant car through all four limbs always being in contact with a key control surface.

When you fully feel that car dance underneath you on the edge of adhesion it is a magnificent feeling - why would you want to take a hand off the wheel or simply use your left leg to push a simple pedal. Would not swap it for MT on a seriously capable car like ? Porsche GT. I have manual Imprezas for when I want to heel and toe, but that's not really why I keep them either.

There is still the fact that one might choose one transmission over the other simply because they enjoy how it makes them feel driving the car. Nothing more. No need to overthink things or conclude on someone else's motivations, when you really have no idea what they might be.
