Sadly accountants often times get in the way during projects and decisions are made based on $ rather than pure engineering perfection. I agree that the less you mess with these amazing P cars the better. I believe small changes like performance wheels or performance exhausts help personalize and differentiate cars for some individuals.

So the SportAuto supertest has just come out and they did 7:05 on CupR tyres at the Ring.. no mention of times on regular semis unfortunately. With 1.8g sustained lateral G they are about 0.2 over what the Cup2 would do. They did 1:05.4 on HH compared to the Manthey car’s 1:05.8 (Manthey deny their N0 are disguised CupR). Also interesting that their times with ESP on or completely deactivated were identical. Generally the speeds they achieve at the Ring are mind boggling. I would love to have a pax in one of the factory cars driven by a factory driver.

Can someone explain to me why Sport Auto's tests are always significantly slower than Porsche's tests?

It seems like their driver doesn't really get the rear-engine aspect...

i) Sport Auto obviously aren't doing the tests in the exact same conditions as Porsche, and not always in ideal conditions.
ii) Sport Auto probably don't/can't do several timed laps and track sessions to pick the best one.
iii) As good as they might be, neither Christian Gebhardt nor previously Horst von Saurma are young professional works racing drivers paid by their employer to drive a car owned by their employer to the absolute limit.

Ultimately I'm not bothered by the difference in times, aside from potentially different track conditions and as the car and tyres seem to be identical, to me it simply shows what a professional driver can get out of a car vs an enthusiast driver with limited time behind the wheel.

correct Sharkwerks can ship directly to dealer, and they will install and cover with warranty.

Why would you expect CG to be as fast as a factory driver?

If he were, why wouldn't he go ply his trade as a factory driver vs. magazine road tester?

On another note, this week I spoke with two European friends of mine who have both recently taken delivery of a new GT3 RS - both said there was basically no change vs. their former 991.1 RS in terms of overall experience. One is a factory driver and the other is a Piëch family member with a lot of track time in a variety of Porsches.

*********. Theirs are smaller. Much smaller than Porsche drivers.

Regarding the question why SportAuto do not achieve the NS times set by Porsche, I am actually amazed at how close they get. Christian is foremost a journalist who can drive well and races with modest success. None of the often faster racers who go out in their own cars or customer cars get anywhere near the SA times, let alone the Porsche times. That’s partly due to the way the test cars are prepped but clearly also due to the skills Christian has in road cars. To set these times with only a couple of tests laps and two max attack laps takes skill.

Also:
Porsche did every run on new tires (if I remember correctly).
Porsche prepared the run the week before with test runs. (But they just had a one hour slot to set their record time.)
Porsche probably run an optimal setup.
I do not know what the temperatures where when the tests where done but it has been very warm recently in Nürburg. Maybe SA lap was on one of these hot days?

IMHO: Improving 9 seconds (SA compared to PAG) at these already low lap times is a gigantic step.

Other said: This is going to take time to get used too.

Both good drivers. Both on delivery setup.

I agree. How he drives is really amazing.

And regarding the other comments about Christian: You should first try to drive the ring under 8mins and then appreciate the car control Christian has.
