Default Reaching out to folks who have done ED

Hello;

Planning a road trip through Ger/Liechtenstein/Swiss/France for first week of October 2017.

Any good sites to see around this route? Obviously hitting up the Porsche Museum

I did part of your loop in spring 2016 and stayed in Strasbourg. IMHO it's a very underrated destination (for a day or so max). We stayed at the Regent Petite, which was very nice. Also stopped at Haut-Koenigsbourg castle nearby. Clearly not as cool as Neuschwanstein, but worth spending an hour or two.
You probably already know, but there's a Rennlist forum devoted to European delivery.
Have fun. It's a wonderful experience.

We did something similar on an ED a few years ago. From Valduz, we took the Furka and Grismel Passes to Interlaken, then across to Bern. Then your route up thru France. Comar was nice and we really like Oberni as a stopping point. Just be careful with the route times in google, they are way off. How many days are you planning?

Saturday to Saturday. Flying in and out through Frankfurt.

Plan is to head down Sunday morning into Stuttgart then head down to Neuschwanstein to crash for the night. Head down to Lichtenstein for a morning sight seeing tour and lunch. Then head to Zurich later that Monday until Wednesday. After we head up to Comar/strasbourg then finally into Black Forest for Thursday night. Finally, leave Forest Friday into Frankfurt to fly out on Saturday AM.

We've stayed at this hotel a couple of different trips. http://www.cour-alsace.com/en/

It has nice court yard parking.

Not sure if that's something that would interest you but Nurburgring and even Spa are within a leisurely drive from Frankfurt

First of all have fun and be safe.

Secondly, there are much much better roads than the ones you have picked.
For example, once you get to Karlsruhe get off A5 and work your way to Gagenau and Baden Baden on the back roads. Make sure to get on B500 Schwarzwaldhochstraße. Nice motorcycle road. Work your way through Oberkirsch and enter France through Kehl

If your going to Mulhouse stop by the auto museum. Cité de l'Automobile.

If you are on A7 around Kempten swing by and see Herr Ruf. I lost a lot of money there.

In Stuttgart swing by Leonberg and see TechArt...

...I can go on...but I sold my home in Germany 16 years ago and there are more guys with newer information...

I second the idea of B500

Attached couple of suggestions - have been organizing (private) driving tours through the alp's for a number of years....

Must do roads (check weather and condition though before - could still easily hit snow this time of the year):
Hahntennjoch - (not very well known road but to me one of the best - Tyrol (best from North to South) - http://www.ultimatedrives.net/top-10...route_ID=40005
Grossglockner very famouse and in summer busy - drive early - http://www.grossglockner.at/
Nochalmstrasse Porsche's testing ground - close to Gmuend - https://www.nockalmstrasse.at/na/en/index
Timmelsjoch - hightest pass in Austria - could still be closed on the Italian side for snow- check) - http://www.timmelsjoch.com/en/
Silvretta Hochalpenstrasse - Great drive - do from east to West http://en.silvretta-bielerhoehe.at/descriptions

Attached my 2016 Tour and also a book review of a great book on Alpine driving I did some time back...

Alpine Tour 2016 - July 2016 - HZ.pdf

Default Alsace Travel Tips...

That's Colmar (with an L) in Alsace. The
latter is one of my favorite provinces in
France!

In Colmar, I recommend a place to eat &
stay at Hotel Le Marechal the old part of
town:

http://www.hotel-le-marechal.com/fr/...-colmar-alsace

*
If you or your wife are foodies, you need
to make reservations & eat at:

L'AUBERGE DE l'ILL. 2 Rue de Collonges
au Mont d'Or 68970 Illhaeusern.

http://www.auberge-de-l-ill.com/en/

It is one of France's top restaurants, period.
Michelin 3 stars. They have rooms too, but
we have never stayed there! The village they
are in is 'nothing'...so the experience is chiefly
the restaurant! It's memorable!

*
And while in Alsace, order a bottle of this
fabulous Riesling:

Or any of the 'Grand Cru' from this winery,
Domaine Weinbach in Kaysersberg. It is owned
by Colette Faller & her daughters (whom we
have visited at their winery) & each of their
wine is fantastic!

http://www.domaineweinbach.com

*
Make sure you take your Porsche on the
famous 'Route du Vin':

http://www.alsace-wine-route.com

You will need to explore this route in order to
hit all of the small towns & vintners that give
Alsace their fame for superior (mostly) white
wines! It is along the Wine Road that we spend
most of our time when we visit Alsace!

**
I'll let other give you other recommendations
on the various regions you will be passing. I
myself have chronicle several trips I have made
to Germany in the past that might perhaps provide
you with some useful information:

Visit To Zuffenhausen on April 18th 2017...Dramatic Changes in the Landscape!
https://rennlist.com/forums/991-gt3-...landscape.html

Visit to Porsche & Germany - July 2015
https://rennlist.com/forums/991-gt3-...ly-2015-a.html

A visit to Zuffenhausen...will I see Andreas or a 991 gt3?
https://rennlist.com/forums/991-gt3-...a-991-gt3.html

Enjoy your European vacation!

Saludos,
Eduardo

Eduardo you magnificent bastard. I will do everything you tell me to

Hell, I'm not a Riesling guy, but I will try it (and probably like it)

I have to cut Zurich to one day now to cover all this stuff you guys are recommending me. I've added Hahntennjoch, B500 route, in addition to stops in Alsace.

I just want to swing by the watch stores and hope they have a white ceramic daytona for me lol

So not ED (at least for a GT3), right? What will you be driving?
