I'm having my rails raised, installing a side-mount new 1.0 hp garage door motor (yeah my current one is like a 20-yr old 0.5 hp center motor from Sears), and having my garage door's rear braces changed from wood to narrower but stronger & lighter aluminum... including the labor this will cost me $950.
And then the 4-post lift is next.... installed I'm looking at ~$3,000. So 4K'ish total. Burning Benjamins...

My garage ceiling is 11'4". I can stack two sports cars all day long. I can squeeze our cayenne under a sports car. The G-wagon does not fit underneath a sports car.

I have ~6" from ceiling to top of the rails.
^^^Nice setup. How'd you choose to use single post over 4 post lifts? What brand are they?
So I'm in the process of deciding if I can get a four post Bendpak 9ST in my garage, or maybe a single post, as it will be mostly for storage. My garage ceiling height is 10'6", amd waiting to hear back from my garage door guy on how high he can raise the rails but he was thinking the closest he could get is 12" from ceiling. Would 9'6" be enough to fit a low profile car on top w/ bendpak 9ST? What about a champion single post? (currently 12c, future probably gt3 or gt4)?

You can stack two sports cars easily with 10ft of clearance, with 9.6 you would be fine.

He can get the rails within 6" of the ceiling.
I have 116" total. Use Visio or SketchUp to plan your space. Before I invested in my project, I needed to know 110% that I'd have no problem.
If you have 126" (I wish I did), you'll be fine. My garage door guy fabricated the rails on the spot. The corporate garage door guys had 3 of their 'experts' try to figure it out and indicated they would have to have the door engineered and would take weeks and $.

I would have loved to get a single post but there were too many mixed reviews, I looked into the ACL MaximumOne, price was over $6k for the lift alone.
Double check the width of the HD9ST, it may be too narrow depending on your application.
The most important issue with single post is whether your garage slab is strong enough to hold the lift in place. I really wanted one but we were uncertain whether my garage slab would be strong enough for the single post. The manufacturers have specs that may help u decide. In my case, to be certain, it would have required ripping out the existing slab and pouring in a new one that met the required specs. Make sure u look into this particular issue.

This is key. I have a 6" thick slab at a specific psi (forgot what psi), but they tell you what you need.
I have 3 ACL single post lifts coming next week. Its a new construction so I made the slab in the garage over a foot deep with high psi to overkill strength.
I also went with roll up style garage doors to make sure I got all the space from my 11'4" ceiling and also recessed the base of the lift into the concrete so it was flush with the floor so the low cars/race cars would go on the bottom.
