Laguna Seca -- sound, times, tires, alignment
After a day at Laguna Seca for an "unlimited" sound event, I'm starting to get some facts on the 991 GT3. I'll fill in the details as I go through my notes. We also have some video and data to share.
Factory alignment specs are new and apparently not like 997 specs.
Max factory front negative camber without rotating the strupt tops is -1.9 degrees.
Sound check at Laguna Seca was 98.8 dB.
(fyi, it's possible to pass 90.0 dB. with 7000 lift-n-shift and Sharkwerk turnips)
Lap times were 2 seconds slower than an RS 4.0 on Hoosiers -- 1:39.xx vs 1.37.xx on the day, same time of day, same driver, same risk levels.

I can run 1:35 w a 6tt on scrubs. My point, no need to bash his time. Same driver, same day those are his times. Most interesting to me is, I was under impression 991 is easier to drive for mortals. Hence the love many of you folks have for it....

1:40 on Hooters sounds about right. I've had a 991S at Laguna on its normal fitment tires around 1:42 lifting for 92 dB sound, and about the same on Sport Cups with as an aggressive alignment as I could dial into it. As a 991S owner, I'd be asking Porsche for the GT3 software to apply to the steering and PDK -- it's chalk and cheese.
As time permits, I'll get a reference lap from the 4.0, which is set up with a half cage, Movits and otherwise stock, weighing about 3300lb.
For now, I thought it a useful PSA to note that 997-based thinking on alignment specs is not applicable, and the 991 GT3 is about 2 dB louder than the RS 3.8 and RS 4.0. We'll need something even more absurd to get under the whisper police.

First want to say thanks for the data points and that is exactly what I would have expected delta wise.
My experience would suggest on a track length such as L Seca the Hooter R6 would give the 4.0RS 1.5-2.0s a lap advantage. I would therefore say it would be fair to assume that in that drivers hands the cars are very similar in terms of performance (which is what i would expect given the 4.0 RS posts a lighter weight and 500 bhp and a very focussed suspension set up one or two degrees further up from the 3.8 RS which is again one or two degrees up from the outgoing .7 3.8 GT3 which the 991 GT3 is a replacement for).
My question Carrera GT is "does the 4.0RS belong to the driver who posted these times"? I ask this as I have found with all my cars a person familiar with a platform will often have an edge over being thrown a set of keys to a new ride and being asked to set a time. I know after many years in the same platform I am as quick in my 993 track girl than a better driver given the keys to my car and asked to post a fasted lap (Ive tried it).
P.S. Bart at Elephant suggested -2.0 was the maximum you could get out of the stock front 991 GT3 set up without using shims. My guy managed -2.14 as posted on my geo sheet in a separate thread but that could just be variance on teh alignment machine....

Also, makes me feel better - I remember when I posted that I did 1.39.9x after spending less than an hour in this car on that track and having driven LS only once before in a different car, people were giving me a bit of hard time on this forum (and it was a 90dB day, so I had a huge power-sapping, downforce-ruining metal bong attached to my exhaust, that ended up melting one of my rear reflectors). So I don't feel like complete slowpoke now (or at least not the only one).
BTW, Randy Pobst did 1.39.7 in a stock M4 and 1.35.6 in Turbo S on Dunlop equivalents of MPSC2s.
So I think there is a quite a bit more in the GT3 even in stock set up.

Pm potter. He has done 1:36 purely stock 6gt3 other than motons. I think some 4.0 rs at ls has done 1:31 or so correct me if I'm wrong. I like to see fast laptimes with 991 gt3 on display once they are broken in. Mike

I watched the TT lap earlier today by Pobst and its about as fast as a 997.2RS with Van Overbeek driving, the GT3 should be faster..
I can just wonder in amazement how fast my relic 964RSA is on Nitto's at 3150lbs+ with me in it and a 3.6L that puts out 265HP??
Stick a pro in my 964 on Hoosiers and they will match the times...
Maybe they are getting so wide, there's no track left for this big new cars LOL.
