If I may ask a dumb question or three: For the non-valved side muffler deletes, the exhaust goes through both pipes top and bottom all the time or just the larger lower one? When the valves are closed in the valved side muffler delete, the exhaust goes through the smaller upper pipe and when open in the valved side muffler delete the exhaust goes through the bigger pipe or both? Finally, if you are going with a non-valved side muffler delete, what is the advantage of that over just one big pipe per side?

Most of the gas goes through the larger pipe, a portion goes through the smaller one as well. There is some "bleed."

With just one pipe going to lower part of OEM center muffler and the top port of the OEM muffler blocked off, you run the risk of ripping a hole in your OEM center muffler over time. Using both the top and bottom ports of the OEM muffler helps prevent rupture. This works because, as mentioned above, there is some bleed-by and a portion of the exhaust gas and pressure waves go through the smaller top section of pipes and into the baffled portion of the OEM center muffler instead of sending all of it to the lower "pass thru" section. That's the theory, anyway.

Just placed my order on a Competition exhaust package and will be anxiously waiting for it. John is very knowledgeable and great to deal with.

In my opinion you should try to listen in person to the bypass you intend to buy. Sometimes that's not possible so you go on reputation and other people's impressions whom you trust. YouTube videos are probably the worst data point you can use.

That being said my full bypass has been exceptional. For those that haven't seen my other posts in this thread my soul side bypasses are coupled to a sharkwerks center just because I already had a sharkwerks and was looking to drop a few lbs with the side bypass. Sound was a secondary consideration. I had heard side bypasses of several varieties including bbi bottom pipe only as well as valved bypasses. The valved bypass was appealing to keep the low end torque about the same even though it's a small loss. Also I wanted something to make it quieter puttering around the neighborhood so my neighbors don't hate me.

As far as sound goes, the center bypass only gives a higher pitched raspy f1 sound. The side center combo is way more throaty and complex with a lot lower frequency. Also the volume is great but not too loud.

Under load there is quite a bit of volume and resonance In the cabin. Cruising at highway speeds there is little to no drone. I can't really tell a difference with the valves open or closed at highway speeds. The volume difference at idle and low rpm is quite noticeably less with valves closed.

Hope that helps People who are considering a bypass. The soul side bypass is a great piece of kit and my experience has been very positive.
If you’re running full bypass and no mufflers, why does closing the valves make anything quieter? I’m on the fence between full bypass and side bypass. I currently run the SW rear bypass.

Sushisean,

First off, my wife and I are sushi lovers. If you've got a place, let me know where and I'll be sure to stop by when I'm in the area

There are three reasons why I recommend choosing a valved side muffler bypass in combination with a center muffler bypass.

The first reason is that the exhaust is routed through a smaller tubing diameter with the valves closed. While this has nowhere near the difference in sound level with a muffler in the system and to some people isn't very noticeable in cabin, it is enough to take a bit off the edge off the sound level at cruising speeds and it does have a notable difference in sound level outside the car as shown in a couple of our videos where we rev the car valves closed vs open.

The second reason is that people like to play around with exhaust configurations. Having valves in the side muffler bypass pipes allows you to close the valves and have a mild/wild setup if you decide to remove the center muffler bypass and run the valved side muffler bypasses with the factory center muffler. People that run non valved side muffler bypass pipes may find it to be a bit too much in regards to cabin presence at cruing speed, so having the option to tone it down is nice to have.

The third reason is resale. In the event that you decide to part ways with your side muffler bypass pipes, a valved side muffler bypass pipe has shown to be a much more sought after modification than a non valved side muffler bypass pipe.

If you'd like to have a more detailed chat and compare sound characteristics on the options you are considering, please feel free to give me a call at 484 883 6197 and I'd be happy to spend some time with you

Just installed the side muffler delete. Sounds awesome! Installer was impressed by the quality of parts and the mounting hardware. Very happy with it!

I was out the other night and I have the Soul side muffler deletes on my .2 GT3. I have unhooked and plugged the valves so it just runs straight through below 4k rpm. Car sound awesome, nice tone below 4k rpm nothing obtrusive, can talk on the phone. tire noise can be louder than exhaust at 70-80mph under 4k rpm. Cruising through a neighborhood not much sound difference than if valves where operating and closed...just a little.

Keep in mind..I am a drummer...used to loud bombastic things...but the GT3 exhaust in this config is not loud and obnoxious...its really how the car should come and sound from the factory. The fit finish and quality of the Soul side muffler deletes are really really good. I have posted my comments on these before but just wanted to revisit 5 months or so later...still enjoying them and believe in Soul.

Not sure if I will ever hook the vales back up...its stupid simple if I need to...maybe next year and see what I think.

Aloha Kona! What center section did you use?

My side delates arrived yesterday.... They look like artwork!

My dilemma is this.... Soul Side Deletes w/Factory Center Section or Soul Side Deletes w/Shark Werks center section? I'll do the installation myself Saturday.

I still have the stock centers. Going to see how I like this first before making any changes to the center! The side deletes with stock centers sounds great so far! But I'm sure I'll get used to it and want more noise!

Thanks Kirby! I'll follow your lead and crank it 11!

Can always put the center section in if my ears start to bleed.
