Boxster spyder with mystery buttons
Just picked up our new to us 2011 spyder. We love it but I have noticed a few buttons which have no function at all.
1) headlight switch allows you to pull it out and activate fog lights. Fog light icon illuminates but car has no fog lights to turn on.
2)there is a button on console to activate rear spoiler. Of course rear spoiler is not motorized. Push button , nothing happens
3) on climate control unit there is a rear defroster button. Press it, lights up, nothing happens. Of course there isn't a rear glass window to defrost.
Just my car or is this common on others. Could have saved a few more ounces off car without those buttons
Thanks
Mike

1) pull the fog light switch, get out of the car, and look at the rear left light. It is brighter now. That is a european way of doing fog lights.
2) I have it to. I have no idea why they would leave that button there. Others have it too. Silly
3) Yup. Same thing. silly

It is my understanding the many of the early 2011 Spyders had the spoiler switch as Porsche was using the same switch panel as on the rest of the Boxster line. That was changed later in the production run. Only 143 Spyders were produced as 2012 cars and known had the spoiler switch.

Thanks all. Guess 1 out of 3 buttons work. When I upgrade to Sport plus software, maybe my new switch panel provided will get rid of the spoiler button. Can't seem to up load pics atm but here is description.
Black with Black interior, Carbon sport buckets, PDK, AC, Sound Package plus. Not too loaded, but just right. We own a few older Porsches and wanted to try a PDK car out. So far its been great. We'll see how it is with upgraded software

You could probably save some money on the Sport Plus software - have them use one of the existing 'extra' buttons and you won't need the new switch panel. Wire it to the spoiler button - totally stealth upgrade.

I'm curious, do our door mirrors have heat and perhaps that's why they have the defrost switch? I can't remember.

I recall the Sport plus software comes with an entirely new switch panel so its easy plug in. Since I have PDK with no Sport button, my switch panel will have two buttons. Sport and Sport Plus. I like the stealth idea though
I'll check the door mirrors. I already had frost last week here in Northern NY, so should be easy enough to do soon. I'm driving the spyder until the first road salting though.
