I'm looking forward to buying a used Cayman in a few years--it will almost definitely be my next car purchase. My Girlfriend's Cayman isn't even broken in yet [800 Miles] and I get giddy whenever I get to drive it [this is coming from extended seat time in all of the cars in my signature, so my opinion has to count somewhat ]

As to sales figures, I think the car will sell well, I have seen a decent amount of them around Atlanta. Practicality-wise, it is almost as practical, if not moreso than a 911 [unless you need the seats for small kids]. The driving experience is superior in every way to my 996 C2. I love the car personally, and I thought that I wouldn't love anything after the 993 that Porsche made!

What is the sticker on a base Boxster anymore?

Our dealership still has two new 2004 Boxsters marked way down. Needless to say, I'm hoping for a raise very soon!

my friend bought a 58k msrp box S for 52. so i would think a boxster would be areound 45-48 plus fee/tax.

this is CA price, so i expect it be even lower outside of CA.

Thanks. Just checked my dealer's website...here are their numbers:

$49,645
$50,685
$50,470
$53,645
$52,255
$52,715

...so one could still get a Porsche under $50k.

I test drove a Cayman yesterday and am really thinking about pulling the trigger. The thing that struck me as odd was this comment by the sales person:

"You know the GM is very interested in moving these cars, just make an offer on any of them and he just might do it."

Sounded to me like they are having a hard time moving them, he was practically begging me to put a lowball offer on the car. This particular dealer is a big one and I know they had at least 5 Caymans sitting there and only one of them was sold.

i love cayman, but as you know it's not a 911, always will have that stigma (sp). so why not just low ball them, 6k off, that will be around invoice. i am not kidding you, ask for 6k off. if you get 4k off, drive it home.

The market for two passenger high priced sports cars is very limited, and it seems like every year a manufacturer is adding another one. Keep in mind that if Porsche is having a problem selling them, especially with all the great press that the Cayman has received, imagine how hard it will be for you to sell the car privatley in a few years.

I've been offered slightly more than 6K off by more than one dealer now on a lightly optioned Cayman. And that was on an ordered car.

You're right -- the fact that they're offering this kind of deal barely two months after release doesn't bode well for resale values! (Not that any Porsche since the 993 has great resale value...)

I think I'll hold out for 7K which could happen in a week or two.

In 2002 I bought a 2002 Audi TT roadster. I got $4K off the sticker from the Dealer and a $1K coustomer loyalty discount from Audi, and 0.9% financing from Audi. I thought I had a hell of a deal until I tried to sell the car two years later. I soon found out that two seater cars aren't in big demand.

c'mon, all cars are bad when it's time to sell.
my S4 avant, i got 5k off. dep'n in 14 months = 20k.
GT3 dep'n in 12 months or so = 25k.
forget it, when you buy a car, think of if you just dumped some cash out the window.
