Wheel color change dilemma...987.1 need insight
Since I'm installing some new tires I figured Id have my stock 18" 987.1 S wheels powder coated to take care of some of the wear spots they have. I was dead set on keeping the color the same but now I'm thinking of going darker, charcoal or black. My car is Carrara White, black side vents, GT3 grill and eventually will possibly have a carbon Getty wing.
I know Black would be a good choice as it would flow with the rest of my accents but sometimes I feel the black wheel washes out with tire and I'm not sure I will be happy with the look long term. What about center caps I only seen black and silver available so if I go with a color other then that I'm not sure what my options are? I've stared at way too many photos and cant find a 18" S wheel in black but I need to pull the trigger spring is nearly here.
Just looking for thoughts, experience and discussion

Black can get blended in with the tire... It just depends upon the look you are going for. Personally, I like the black wheels.

Look up prismatic powders. You can order color samples on small swatches for free or almost free. I have a black car and went with laser copper. A very dark bronze. You then can hold the swatch against the car and pick what works for you. Your powder coater can then order want you want instead of what he has.

I like black wheels on white cars if the car is not used in a dusty environment.

Personally I really like black wheels on white cars. Your Boxster S wheels have a lot going on with them and would look dynamite in black especially if you added a black “PORSCHE “ side stripe. With that said all three colors and even ones you haven’t thought about like a vintage mat gold or RSR powder blue will look great on your white car.

I’m so bored and over black wheels. They’ll be the new chrome wheels in 5 years.

Black 18” wheels on my dark green 987.1S. Pardon the dirt…
edit: I guess you’re looking for Cayman, not Boxster…

Pretty sure black wheels are here to stay. I started painting my wheels black in college , 42 years ago. I can still remember the look on the powder coater’s face when I had him paint a set of 20 in chrome wheels for my Expedition 20 years ago followed by his look when he saw them on the truck, priceless Couldn’t have fathomed it would be common place so many years later.
