Mine was really bad when I got the car - had a place called Fibrenew refinish it and it looks brand new. Was US$250, which I found to be extremely reasonable. It did require me to remove the console, but it's an easy enough job.
They apply a sealant finish to minimize such issues going forward and the color was matched spot on. I'll see if I can find some before and after pics to post but here is a link to what they did to fix the leather issues I had as well. It's been 18 months and still looks great.
It looks like they have a location in Toronto: Fibrenew

If any of you recall a past "Wheeler Dealer" episode dealing with a Porsche 996, Mike (the host) promotes a small shop in the LA area that recovered the center console in leather. The price for the job is even discussed as part of the show. Generally, various contributors to show are named in the credits. I don't remember what was paid, but it wasn't $1800.

I have a cocoa full leather interior, but the console is soft touch and has a good number of scratches.
Some of the other cocoa plastic pieces are more scratched than I'd like from the previous owner.
If there's any shop in California that refurbishes and/or leather wraps these for a reasonable price, I'd be interested.

Took sometime to get this from Bumper Plugs, as they paint-to-order even though it's a fairly common artic silver color. Took a while to get this across the border but also sometime to get it PPF. I was also out of the country for a month.
Then we took more time to figure out how to remove the console and swap things around...
It definitely brightens up an all black interior...

I went with one from DB Carbon for around $950 with no core required. I considered another factory plastic one for $750 from Sunsetporscheparts (I think that's how much it was when I looked last). The leather option was cool, but looks very similar in photos to the plastic and even in person it has a premium feel, but not $2k premium, to me.
Also agree that PPF should not be needed on the Bumper Plugs one. Painted consoles seem to hold up relatively well.

A big ask - I know, but do you have a pic of it in your car that you can share? :-)

my cayman is a 2007 with 36,000 miles on it. the interior is beige/sand. i've had the console in and out a few times.
in general, the plastic parts of the interior are made out of black injection molded plastic. the beige interior plastic parts are painted. and the paint does not adhere well. it is easily scratched off completely leaving the black plastic showing. whether or not replacement parts are painted with more durable paint i do not know. so it's possible that replaced parts may be more durable.
i've bought some touchup paint that does a pretty good job on small scratches, but i'll be the first to admit it ain't perfect. but i will say that the standard leather is of poor quality. IMO it's probably worse than the vinyl. the only leather to get is the "full natural extended leather" interior or replacement pieces. i've experienced it and it is nice.
i would look into removing the hard plastic pieces that were not to my liking, take them to a auto paint shop, color match them, and have them painted.

@Bxstr I know I'm a bit late on this, but did the DB Carbon console include the cut-out for the airbag light? I just took a look the example on their site and don't see it. Not a biggie - just wondering.

I now have one more thing to buy for my car!
Above, you stated a $950 price for the console.
That's quite a bit less than what's currently quoted on the DE Carbon site, and doesn't include the additional cost for the ashtray. Were prices cheaper back in May or do they occasionally have sales?
