I doubt that not renewing your paid membership will make a difference to IB. If it did, they would have already made the site read-only for non-members.

I do agree that restructuring the sites wouldn't be rocket science, but wonder if it wouldn't be simpler and cleaner to start separate new, empty forums for the 987 and 981 and all their variants and simply archive the existing 987-981 and Cayman forums in searchable, read-only subsections embedded in both of the new forums.

My reasoning is based in the fact that so many threads in both of the current 987-981 and Cayman forums contain non-technical information that doesn't apply to specific models. For example, the "Most Recent Picture of Your Car" thread isn't model specific, nor are all of the "Took a Drive to...." threads and so many others that are part of the 987/981 experience but are not relevant to a specific model.

Archiving the current 987-981 and Cayman forums would preserve the knowledge base for anyone to search but let's be honest, few people really use the "Search" function. Most would just go to the new model-specific forums and ask their question(s).

Finally, I really don't have a dog in this fight. I come here to see what's going on and see what other folks are doing with their cars. I go to this forum, the Cayman forum and then the 993 forum (Because that's where I started fifteen years ago and I still think it's the best tech forum around). These are just suggestions that worked for me back in another life. Sometimes it's just better to start clean.

I'm out.

Terry

I'm new here but it looks to me that the differences are greater than the similarities. Just wondering if such a forum is justified. Maybe it's just the 981 that needs a ride. In which case let it go hang out with the 718! lol
@scootr You wanna actually add a 'poll' to this "987 forum poll"? I mean that is what the thread is called, I though I would actually be able to vote into a consensus...

e.g;
POLL:-Would you like to see a separate dedicated group for the 987 platform. Please click the option to vote:
A- Yes -separate group for 987
B- No -keep the 987/981 grouped together
