Default $795 PPI ???

Wtf???

I called my local Porsche dealer today to get a price on a post purchase inspection and was quoted $795...wow, I guess they do the full cavity check with that lol
I'm in between Porsche of San Diego and Porsche of Riverside so I called the Riverside dealer for a quote.... I won't even bother with San Diego Porsche after I was ignored a few months ago when I went there to check a 981C.... then I checked yelp and found out that I was not the only one....some of the worst customer service reviews you will ever see....my fault for not checking yelp first.

I bought my car from a Lexus dealer who offers a 90 day or 3000 mile warranty with every used car, so I figure I would take advantage of that and get a PPI soon, I wanted to get a pre purchase inspection but since the car was over 400 miles away and it was Labor Day weekend I didn't get a chance to, but I was assured they did a full inspection.... anyways I was shocked at what I was quoted for a PPI ( usually those run about $200 typically)

I called my local recommended indy shop and was quoted $128- $178 and booked an appointment

When I bought my Cayman 987.1 two years ago, I had 3 ppi's done, first two resulted in non purchases based on results (they were 997's). Average price was $300 and I felt confident in the feedback I got. All were indy's who provided a nice report format. So I would ask what I get at the prices you are being quoted. In contrast, a prospective seller gave me a copy of the ppi for his car when he bought it. It was a single sheet with a few notes, but no specifics like pad/disk thickness, rev report, etc. Very poor.

When I bought my 964 I paid $250 which included a leakdown and quick check over but no formal report. Just a 30 minute phone call to review results and a follow up email with the leakdown/compression results. The tech was very accurate and I didn’t have any surprises after getting the car.

If your car is still under warranty then I would stick with the dealer. But if it’s no longer under warranty you gain nothing by taking it to a dealer, majority of the good techs in our area have superior service and the same equipment on hand. For dealer service either Riverside or Carlsbad are ok choices. Outside of dealers both my cars go to Vollig which is right near the dealer in San Diego.

Sounds similar to Hoen Porsche in Carlsbad.
Pricing for anything and everything is absolutely ridiculous AND they wanted to argue about my CPO Warranty. => run away!

Call Adam @ Vollig in San Diego, or Black Forest. Last year I had Black Forest do a PPI for me on a 991 Carrera S for $450.

Hook up computer, print results, put on rack, test drive, check all switches, what works what doesnt, what needs attention.

Add bore scope, drop sump plate, inspect filter to this and PPI cost can easily exceed 250 -300 dollars. In SoCal several indys have stop doing PPIs.

I would never have a Porsche dealer do a PPI in less you had no other reasonable options.

Yeah, the $795 PPI is crazy .... was referred to a local Porsche mech who does one for $128-178, but I just called the Porsche dealer who last did service on the carfax and found out more info on what was done and was stoked to hear that it just had its 40k mile service 2000 miles ago. So I don't even know if I should waste the money, but for $128 to get certified set of eyes on her is probably worth it.

Even though the oil was changed 2,000 miles ago, bring it to the shop you plan on using, pay them for an oil change, and ask them to look it over. You will get most of the PPI for free, and start the relationship you want with a local shop.

Haha...that's what I was thinking.

For $795, it had better come with a happy ending.

I paid $350 for mine (though it was a pre-purchase inspection), and it included a formal report with over-revs, fault codes, and any abnormal findings. Ended up finding a few things that the dealership fixed before delivery, including the horn's low tone not working and the coolant slightly overfilled. The car has been flawless since I bought it
