Default EZPass toll transponder mounting

Anyone have any luck hiding a bumper transponder under the frunk, or somewhere inside the front bumper? I've been using a windshield mounted one, but am considering getting a cleaner look by hiding it.

Spray paint it flat black. Then is virtually disappears in your windshield.

I kept mine stuck to the windshield with the Velcro tape they provide. I put it behind the rear view mirror so I never saw it while driving. From the exterior, the tape was visible if you looked really closely, but it wasn’t very obvious.

I tried leaving mine in the armrest, in the cubby, loose in the car. I would've thought with a fabric top, it would work reliably enough. No dice. I did not like the idea of adhering it in the window, those aesthetics suck. Plus, I leave the car open a lot.

I finally settled on this...

I reached in and adhered it to the underside of this plastic cover near the center of the car's wipers, kinda center / driver side of the windshield. Used the adhesive / velcro strips that come with the EZPass.

Takes just a bit of reaching and positioning to find a good flat spot, cleaned the mounting surface with a little rubbing alcohol, dried and applied strips. It's been reading well at tool booths ever since.

When I owned my Porsches, I bought an EZ Pass plastic holder with suction cups off Ebay, that I could put on or off as needed. I used it a couple of times, but didn't want the permanent mount adhesive stickers in the windshield, purely for aesthetics.

Here's one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/MINI-EZ-Pas...2de7136c2b767b

This is what I did, and it will continue to be dryer than the 100% stealth one shown below.

Pretty sure around where I live, it doesn't cost anything extra to make them find you by license plate detected in the cameras - maybe its just because we have the toll booths now that bill non-ezpass via photo anyway so the system is already made to do it.
I put it up on the dash if I think of it but usually don't bother and I think I get away with a few tolls here and there as a kicker. I think one time I got a letter that they notice my transponder must be broken since they are using the image a lot..

Maybe this makes me a horrible person?

Edit: They claim there will be fees for excessive use of V-Toll (video toll). I had about 30 or 40 tolls in July and half were V-Toll and no fee. May not want to follow my lead.

Illinois has fees for excessive v-toll now. Hence, my approach to permanent mounting.

Looks like I keep getting dinged with the ITOL (image based) tolling with the transponder hidden under the plastic wiper covers. I guess I'll have to try somewhere else.

Fwiw, the transponders are based on active rfid tech, so it'll pass through plastic and glass just fine but any metal or liquid (like your arm), even aluminum foil will interfere with the signal. Under the windshield trim looks good, just make sure there isn't a foil sticker or any wiper metal components on top of the transponder.

Oh, it's directional too so make sure the correct side is facing out/up.

Puzzling. I'm getting 100% hit rate with the iPass in the location above.

Mine is a 981, the hood extends over the plastic slightly more, which may block it.
