Hey guys

Was invited to the Porsche World Roadshow at Monticello this past Friday and they had new Cayman GTS to drive on their track. It was a controlled experience since you had to drive and follow a lead instructor (driving the lead car which was usually the Boxster GTS). BUT you get to drive the Cayman GTS on the track.

At one point I was able to go over 100 mph with the Cayman GTS.

Some quick observations:

- She is beautiful. All the Cayman GTS were in red. Boy did they had a presence. Everyone wanted to drive them and all the Porsche people were talking about them - especially since these were given to them first over the dealers they said.

- Sport Exhaust + Sports Plus + PDK = Animal. Wow. Once we leave the pit stop and get on the track you can take off, and control what settings you want. We of course (my friend who was my co-pilot) picked sport exhaust and sports plus and the car was just friggin amazing. The sound was so exotic, the inputs and throttle response on this was amazing and PDK made those quick downshifts/upshifts a kick-*** experience.

- Footprint. They had the boxster GTS and the 911 Targa as other test cars and we were able to drive them all. The 911 Targa was a bad choice, I thought cause it probably is heavier then a base 911s with that top. On the track the 911 Targa felt like a cow after we drove the Cayman GTS. The Cayman GTS just had a great footprint - power to weight, steering, the lowered stance. My goodness what a car.

So the wrap-up. I just got a 997.1 but if I had to buy a new car right now it would have to be this Cayman GTS - in the red. It's just amazing. Wow. Still thinking about that car. And later on they drove us in new 911 Turbo S on the track and I still wanted to be in the Cayman GTS....thats how good it was.

Now you know why I've had my Cayman R for over two years.

And have let almost every iteration of the 911 go, along with a couple R8's and others.

No. You need to option PTV in order to get a LSD

I'm also an R owner - 2012 PDK - just a wonderful package. Only had it on track one time thus far but it was just about perfect. I have not dissected exactly what the GTS has that would make it much different from my car, seems probably not all that much that matters really.

I am in the hunt for a soft top for the away house....hmmmmmmm... that Boxster GTS.....

The biggest difference is the sound. The sound coming from the new GTS is heavenly and makes my remus equipped spyder sound very bland. It's that good.

I have the "sport exhaust" option on the R - it's fun to push that button to be a bad boy driving around town in particular the downshift notes (not sure appropriate behavior at 57) - but on the track with everything really ripping wide open it turns lots of heads!

I understand that, but the sport exhaust option on the R and spyder pale in comparison to the sport exhaust sound of the new GTS. It's that good. Apparently the GTS also has sound being directed into the cabin from the rear panel.

Got to check that out, have to look into when dealer cars are actually arriving. I'm guessing most are pre-sold but assume floor plan cars will show up at some dealers. Maybe it's worth the premium over a well specified Boxster S for that feature! If anyone has info relative to availability and such appreciate it.

Post like this makes me want a GTS. My dealer can get a October build with a January delivery. If I did it, I would have to do no options with the exception of painted wheels. If all things fall through with my Spyder search, that might have to be my path.

The sound is intoxicating. A coworker just picked up a $110k Boxster GTS in Sapphire Blue. The sport exhaust is incredible.

The standard exhaust sounds almost as good as the engaged Sport Exhaust on the 987.2, I can't imagine how good PSE must sound on the 981.

I would say the biggest difference is the lack of steering feel. For that reason alone, I'd prefer the R
