I agree, that champagne color is incredible. Love the two-tone interior as well.

I like most of the design but I'm not quite sure I like the new rear spoiler. It kind of reminds me of the Lexus 2 seater (SC430).

I'm hoping it looks nicer in person.

What's up with no 'PSE' in the performance section of the configurator? Is this not an option for this year???

I think it's fantastic. This bodes well for the Cayman update.

While I am not as big a fan of the new center console in the 991, I think it looks great in the 981 ! Car looks much sleeker than I expected. I am suprised Porsche used Gold and Brown for their colors though.

Just let these cars have their own identity already, rather than trying to keep them in-step within a line-up!
I totally agree with this and find the blatant 'crippling' of the caymans/boxsters surprising. It seems so obvious and silly to do this when it's the same engine. I just don't get it.

Love the design, much more so than the 991. I will either keep my 997.2, or go back to mid-engine-land with a new gen boxster/cayman.

I saw that figure somewhere else also.

My 200lb comment stems from the Autoweek link above:
Porsche isn't giving away too much detail on the new structure right now. But officials involved in an earlier prototype ride event attended by Autoweek indicate that it weighs more than 220 pounds less than the outgoing second-generation model's all-steel body in a move that--along with reductions in the weight of the car's newly developed magnesium-framed cloth hood--should see the base Boxster hit the scales at less than 2,866 pounds, despite the increase in dimensions and what Porsche describes as “greater levels of standard equipment.”

Overall I really like the looks of the 981. I do have one small complaint, I don't like the vintage style metal "PORSCHE" letters on the back of their new cars. I think it would look much cleaner just saying Boxster/ Boxster S as on previous cars. I'd probably opt to delete the badging.

Actually I don't belive you can delete the P O R S C H E from the factory. But you can with the model logo's.

PS anyone else noted that some of the options like PCCB and others now cost less than on the 911. They always used to be the same price. There were other examples that escape for the moment. Anyone care to comment?

Thats unfortunate, since if you chose to delete the badging on a 997/987 you get a clean rear deck without any metal writing. I don't mind the Boxster/Boxster S....but I don't like the metal P O R S C H E badging.

I love the new look, it is a nice progression from the outgoing model. I still prefer the Spyder but if I didn't own one this would be a runner up. I still do prefer the simplicity of the Spyder, I must be getting old!
