Pretty cool. Seems like a lot of stress and headache though. I have the ZZ-2 carplay retrofit on my PCM 3.1 and it works pretty well already.

It’s not just the absence of CarPlay that’s the problem with PCM 3.1, it’s the resistive touchscreen. PCM 4.0 has a capacitive touchscreen just like your phone. It makes using CarPlay so much easier.

I can't wait for him to outline the 981 process. Looks like this was very challenging to retro into a platform which had PCM4.0 availability within its generation, so who knows how this will play out with an older generation. I imagine quite a few modules will need swapping, with dealership coding likely. Here's to hoping it's feasible at a reasonable cost though!

Good point. Most of the time I just set destinations using my phone's screen.

Started ordering harnesses and adapters. Looks like mib2 software for vin and PIWIS for cluster. Will update once I get everything and install.

I'd be interested to know the final cost breakdown once you're up and running, if you don't mind sharing.

. Will do. Early stage estimate used pcm 1200-1400. Harnesses and new usb for pcm 4 130 AliExpress. mib2 software is free and I started building a piwis3 clone for other uses. I think the programming of the cluster is just a software update and the mib2 is just software hack. The one thing that concerns me and I am trying to look into is that I will need a new/Bose amp since pcm 4 is most150 vs most25 for pcm 3.1. I need to find out the pin layout and what and if programming it to a 981 is possible. One thing that came to mind is I have a 718 GT multifunction wheel with the gpsadapter. If I do this mod will I still need the adapter? I may have jumped the gun ordering things but so far only in for 130.

Default Audi vs Porsche Bose Amp same part number

I am in the process of trying pcm 4.0 in 981. I need a most150 amp I see that Audi and Porsche use this same amp PORSCHE BOSE AMPLIFIER 4G5 035 223 C. What programming if any would I have to do? Can I use it? The labels on both are exactly the same.

I have the Isudar carplay and it even has the same icons as the PCM 4.0. With the newest firmware my iPhone is connected to the car before the engine has even finished starting. Very impressed.

when you figure this out, sell harnesses for a premium price. some day in the future PCM 4.0 will be a few hundred on eBay and then retro fit makes sense as 3.1's die.

unless the conversion becomes simpler and demand out weighs supply. Not going to do harnesses since the demand is not there. I have a Bose system and it turns out the cost is more than I expected. I paid 1250 for the pcm which I decided to sell at a loss of 1100.

You can convert MOST-150 to SPDIF/TOSLINK or low level RCAs using something like this.

https://navtv.com/products/NTV-KIT860/zen-v.html

Then the PCM4 can connect to any aftermarket amplifier.
