FWIW, I've owned my carmine red 991.2 for almost a month now, and driven the hell out of it; and sure as **** I somehow don't get near the attention I got in my carrara white Boxster GTS. Pretty much every time I took that car out, someone commented on it. With the 991, I get an occasional stare, and in one case a pretty entertaining head nod. So... not a lot of love for the 991...
Maybe the 981 is just that kind of special? Great looking but still approachable?
Heh, I've had a red 987 Boxster S for years, and just bought carrara white 911 T. We have inverse cars!
I don't expect a whole lot of conversation about the 911, I think most everyone who sees a 911 knows it's a Porsche. Hell I think it's a little boring looking myself.
The 987 on the other hand, it just looks good. I think Porsche nailed a classic look with those, especially the Cayman. (embarrassed to say I've had a Cayman R in peridot green for a few years too).

For attention when driving a 911, choose a classic. I can’t imagine getting more comments in a Lambo or Bugatti than I get every time I take this antique out for a drive.
