Question Covering dash with leather

Has anyone had any experience in covering a dash with leather? My local trim guy was not interested in giving it a try.

I have the factory full leather option but that still only covers the lower half of the dashboard. I think with the amount of heat that can build in a car during summer months, shrinking might be an issue on the dash.
It might be too much work with all the vents in there.

Its a rather bad idea unless your car lives in a temp controlled enviroment ALL the time, imo. A much better solution is to get a dash recovered by JustDashes, they are pro's at it and their stuff will last pretty much forever if you take care of it. They use a heavier vinyl and put some sort of coating on the metal support underneath that keeps it from heating the vinyl as much. Its also expensive, around $750 for doing the dash itself, and then you get to have the fun of installing it, but its the best way to go.

Regards,

Scott, with all those Pcars, you must not be married or have kids .

Great idea, but not at all practical. I saw a couple of weeks ago a 993 Turbo S that had about 50 grand in Exclusiv options-including a totally leather dash. This garage queen already was looking lousy, with shrinkage around the top dash vents, the ignition rosette, etc. A lot of money thrown away.

Ha! My signature doesn't include my Harley or my guitars... I've been married twice, divorced twice and am getting married again in a month! This one understands that I am nothing but a big kid myself... lol

Scott,
I don't think "Just Dashes" will do the 968 dash because of the passenger side airbag. I emailed them to find out. I think I'd already contacted them

As long as you have more boy toys than you do present and xwifes and can afford them all, you'll be a happy man.

Default How about the suade look?

If you really want to cover it in leather maybe you could go with alcantara or ultrasuade. I had that material on the seats of my 944 and it looked and felt exactly like suade but its actually man made so it won't shrink and stuff. It comes in lots of colors too.

For those who don't know, alcantara=Italian mouse fur. Well, not really, but it looks like it!

I've always liked the idea of a dash covered in some non-glare material like suede, mouse fur, or good rat hide...
