Should I tell it here? Good story. don't want to hijack Jay. He'd prob enjoy it too since he is obviously a risk taker and an online shopper.

Default Moving Day

Yep, we got Wilma loaded - it went very well overall. The added bonus was a lot of parts got handed back to make Wilma back. It has been a long two days thus far with one more travel day to go.

The stand has worked out well despite one snafu. After taking numerous measurements and double checking everything, when I went to install it, it was noticed that I hadn't taken into account the double floor (I had taken all the measurements on a coupe). Lesson learned. We figured out a way top compensate for the this oversight and got Wilma loaded.

Stopped over to visit the 'Jungle Find' to pick up a few more parts unique to the Cab and to visit briefly with John. Another great 968 enthusiast!

Final destination tomorrow will be home for Wilma as we further assess the condition and parts needed to remake the car.

I'm very sorry Raj, we got to the area to pickup about 2PM on Sunday (Bloomington). By the time we left for Fishkill it was nearly 6PM. Next morning we left after making some adjustments around 9AM and arrived in VA to visit the 'Jungle Find' - got to Johns house around 5-ish (DC rush hour trafiic is not for the feint of heart - especially with a car on a towed trailer!). Finally go to the hotel at 8:30PM in Winchester. Seems like everyday we were tasked with time constraints with no time to spare.

This trip has been a whirlwind - over 2000 miles in 4 days!

Default Wilma, Arriving

Got home to late last night to do the offload so we put it off until this morning. Attached are a few of the photos I took to document her arrival. We did encounter a minor mishap about 70 miles from home when I noticed an apparent loosening of the ratchet straps in the rearview mirror. We stopped and discovered one of the ratchet straps had failed under load . Repleaced the faulty strap with a spare and continued the journey.

In hindsight, using castors with metal or solid rubber wheels would have been better. Each wheel is rated for 500 lbs, but as you'll note in the pics - the rears are nearly squashed with the weight (I had SWAGGED a total weight of ~1,000 lbs - and yes, it wheel was properly inflated).

Despite the undersizing of the wheels, the chassis and frame rolled reasonably well given the conditions.

What you may not see directly is the rear attachment of the chassis to the dolly. Despite taking multiple measurements and double checking, I still got it wrong. Don't misunderstand, the measurements were perfect - for a coupe. I had not factored in the double floor pan used on the cab which resulted in the floor pan protruding slightly below that of the coupe. Just enough to contact the rear upper cross member of the dolly. Managed a MacGyver type fix on the scene to compensate (ratchet strap under frame rails attached to the body mounts).

The tilt bed trailer was perfect for this application and the control of removing the chassis from the trailer was easily controlled using ratchet straps.

I managed to scarf up a bunch of parts to help with putting Wilma back together. Current plan is to make an assessment over the next few weeks and then start disassembly after the first of the year in prep for cleaning and paint.

Hoping Jeff will chime in here - note that Wilma has option M418 - Side Protection Moldings. Not very common from the photos I've seen.

We left for Panama City Beach for the weekend after the unloading was completed. After this week, a bit of R&R is in order.

Between you and Raj I will have plenty to read for the next 5 years. Ah, yes, side protection mouldings. A few years ago I had deals with 3 salvage yards to call me first when mouldings came in. I think they are de rigueur on 968. I noticed em on your tub right off.

More common then you might guess:

Option code 418 Body colored side moldings

2,234 coupes - 360 18%
2,008 cabs - 495 25%

Need a color choice? Buy a big bag of M&Ms and a bag of Skittles, (Wild Berry, because we're not heathens). Lock yourself in the closet and keep eating until there's one left. Whatever color is left, that's your car. Now go see a dentist because that was a lot of candy.

There is a guy named Cole under the Bart tracks at O.Co. who would love to pick the color(s) of this car.
To me it is a dream dilemma to get to pick a color for a 968 Cab. The perfect car to paint from your imagination rather than an obligation to originality.
What color is the car behind the green 914 in my Avatar? Anybody know? I thought I knew but now I'm not so sure.

Started the assessment of Wilma...

Good news is that I found $1.10 in change. That'll help pay the tax (which came to roughly $25 more than I paid for Wilma).

Bad news is I'ma gonna need a folding roof. Found one on eBay fortunately that didn't set me back to much (with shipping to the door!).

More to come...

Money shot.
