Default WTB 968

So I'm completely turned off of the 964 market. I've looked at 5 cars in the last 6 months and they were all complete junk needing at least 15 grand in maintenance right off the bat but for some reason people think they are sitting on a pile of gold. So screw that, I'm going to wait a while on a 964. I'm now going to my next favorite Porsche the 968! I'm now looking for a red, blue or silver 968, manual. Please shoot me a pm if you have leads.

If I dont get an m030 car how big a deal is it to turn one into an m030 car??

To 'turn it into an M030 car' takes only money...and finding the right parts (a few are NLA from Porsche). For the purist, one cannot simply turn a non-M030 car into an M030 car.

FWIW - Raj has a very nice example of an M030 Coupe listed for sale.

I have driven a M030 944S2 and my long gone 944S2 with bigger sway bars and Koni's felt just as good to me, but I am no expert.

I have a "regular" 968 and put Koni sports on the car last year. It totally transformed the handling and I could not be happier. Larger sway bars may be added down the road, but not required.

As stated previously, it just takes some money. When I was searching I considered a few M030 cars, but they had been driven a lot harder than the one I purchased. And asking prices were $8k - $10k over what I paid.

I too have conducted many failed 911 searches in the past 20 years. Lots of money and even more work.

Not true at all. The ride is controlled and firm.

Jerry, welcome back from the Cayenne side I see a trend here.

I had/have in the following order a:
1984 944
1987 951
1990 944S2 Cab
1992 968 Tip
2005 Cayenne S
2009 Cayenne Turbo S
1993 968

I too, 3 years ago started to look at 993s first, but those were 35k for ~120k examples, then 964, which were a bit cheaper at 20k. Then decided to get the 968 spend money on a fully track ready car and budget 5k for upkeep, mods etc.

Of course prices have gone up on the 993s in these 3 short years, but happy and having fun with my lightened 968 so far!

My car is not an M030 but has:

CS Springs up front w/Koni Yello Double Adjustable Struts
M030 Sway Bars front and Rear
Bilstein in the rear
Delrin bushings all around
Torsen LSD
Short Shift (Design 1 Racing)

Also have an upper and lower strut brace.

This is the best handling 944/968 I have ever driven and I have 150k on it right now.

That being said, I have never driven an M030

Thanks man! Just sold the 997 turbo but keeping the Cayenne for wife.
I don't have to have an m030. Just want a nice 968 and if I need to mod the suspension I'll do it. I'm very tempted to buy the black m030 for sale but I'm worried that it would just always bug me to not have my color choice.

I have only been back on this side of the board the last few years (got my 944 back when this board was email only and porschelist) but Raj has a great rep here and he knows these cars inside and out. I think his would be well sorted and I would have went for it back then if it was for sale.

Color is obv a personal choice, but for me there are only a few colors that don't date the car looks too much (and they happen to be the 3 most popular) Black Red and White I think? For my crazy off colors I like speed yellow and I can't remember which blue, but the more aqua one

I have always been an all black interior guy, and they seem to be a little rare on the 968s, with most of them having two tone black/tan or grey. Jeff would know for sure Just my observation.

Adding M030 bars, koni sport shocks, strut tower brace with firewall brace, caster block bar, short shift kit totally transforms the base car - totally different drive but the ride is still nice. Throw in a RS Barn stage 1 chip and the airbox mod. Maybe RSBarn cat back exhaust. You can go farther with lowering springs in the front to CS ride height with rear torsion bar also adjusted for matching height and now you start to make the ride a little harsher. Adding heavier springs and heavier rear torsion bar like M030 car takes it a step farther. You can get a lot of car without buying an M030 car, just not as collectable. And you don't get the bigger brakes. So if you aren't after the collectable, find a nice one you like and will be happy with and make the easy mods.

Jerry, I'm on the east side of Atlanta in Covington. I've got an M030 968. Definitely not for sale, but if you'd like to drive it and check the ride send me a PM and we can get together.

Hey, so you've moved over here too

Trying to get back into P ownership, but 964s are so damn expensive.

Anyone who is considering a 964 should give serious consideration to 968. Very similar suspension and brakes. A very capable alternative. Also, does not require engine drop for just about anything.
