Unless, of course, it is a 1 of 1 Riviera Blue 968 coupe!

If you swap out the transmission, it won't be a 1 of 1 Riv Blue coupe that matches the VIN. It would 0 of 1, wouldn't it?

The VIN is on the engine, Not sure about the tranny. So the VIN would still match, and it would be a lot more fun to drive with the 6 speed in addition to the 1 of 1 status.

I, too, love originality but a swap of a tip to a 6 spd? No second thought to me on the originality issue. Put a new gray top on a gray cab that had a bad black top? I say hurry and to the devil with orig. A Porsche script interior opportunity. No guilt here. I wouldn't even pause to think about it with any of these three opportunities.

I probably wouldn't care about resale value if I did the swap. I would have no plans on getting rid of it. I'm young and have disposable income and I don't have ADD like a lot of people seem to have with old cars lol.

7k is pretty damn pricey though. So including a 1.5k manual tranny that OD posted +pedals and whatnot it'd be another 5k in labour?

I'd say to hell with that for sure... just sell the tip and buy a cheap manual when it comes along.

It is quite common for people to have misconceptions on cost of swaps. A lot is not taken into account. When you buy that $1500 transmission, how can be 100% certain it is good? It's a big risk just throwing that in there. There is a long list of parts needed (already covered in another thread). Getting them all sorted could take time and let's not forget time is $$. I always consider my time worth $$ so the labor cost/time cost is still there.

I'm all into originality and will probably add a tip (cab) to the collection in the future.

That said, if I had the opportunity to purchase Trev's 1 of 1 Riv Blue coupe I would look at the tranny swap as a plus in that car. IMHO.

Agree with Jeff here. Depending on the car involved, it could add to the value.

It is like Raj's turbo, we all know that is not a factory spec car, but the OEM parts and the quality and type of work done make a difference! And for the US spec market, that car is basically irreplaceable as well as valuable.

Hi 968 fans, first time posting. I've been in the market to finally start my Porsche collection.

I came across this beauty: http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...ngId=434959102

Just wanted to get input on this car from those in the know.
I feel like the price is several thousand too high. Agreed or no?
Any concerns with the car from what you see in the ad?

Also, don't mean to go off topic, but in terms of typical maintenance, what would you all say is a good $ number to set aside for any repairs/emergencies for a 968?
I'm sure it depends on the condition of the car, but I couldn't find it searching.

Thanks all!

Default White 968

Having just been through this process with my new (to me) 968 this year, this looks like a good example. I'd ask for evidence of all of the repairs mentioned as it is a good and expected list for a car with 109,000 miles. They don't list what was done with the axles / cv joints and transaxle....these look like they have had recent attention also. Biggest skeleton in the 968 closet is ring and pinion damage due to bearing issues. Make sure you drive it and listen carefully for ring and pinion whine when letting off the gas at 70mph. In terms of price his recent repairs and additions cost him at least $12,000 so added to an average car at $12,000 his price is not so far off. Good luck...

Axis993/Ben,

Maintenance can be expensive, even with great independents. I would set aside $2,500 or so.
