968 West Coast Gathering 2016!
Start making your plans! South Lake Tahoe, CA! July 8th -10th, 2016!
Several of us are organizing a West Coast Gathering for next summer in South Lake Tahoe!
This is a gathering for any and all 968 owners for the purpose of having a great weekend in a spectacular setting with your 968! This is not a commercial event, this is strictly for fun.
Here are the particulars:
Dates: Friday, July 8 through Sunday July 10, 2016. You can come earlier and stay later and get the group rates.
The main hotel is the 968 Park Hotel. (what a cool name for a hotel) Check it out at:
http://www.jdvhotels.com/hotels/california/lake-tahoe-hotels/968-park-hotel/
To book your room at the 968 Park Hotel, call the hotel at 530-544-0968and mention the code “Porsche” to receive the exclusive discount rates. Make your reservations early, this is a small property, so book as soon as you can so you can be guaranteed a room. The rates won’t apply for the 4th of July weekend, however. They have offered us great rates.
Next door is the Park Tahoe Inn that offers somewhat lower rates. Check it out at: http://www.parktahoeinn.com/
To book your room at the Park Tahoe Inn, call the hotel at 530-544-6000and mention the code “Porsche” to receive the discount rates.

Just a reminder that the 968 West Coast Gathering is only 6 months away. I encourage you to make your hotel reservations soon. The 968 Park Hotel has limited rooms, although the Park Tahoe Inn next door has more rooms. There are some great drives being organized on some beautiful roads. Hope to see many of you there.

I'd like to put one of these on some day. I Co-chaired the 90 Parade and a 356 Registry West Coast Holiday and would like to do something similar but a bit smaller. Who can I coattail to get the drift of expectations
and traditional events. Is it approved or tied to any club or organization? Or, just a grab and run? How many cars are expected. Didn't PCA once do a 968 specific event? What was/is Hershey?

There is a PCA event tied to Hershey, big event, east coast. Never been to it, too far away, but it's been around a while and there is/was a well-attended 968 event tied into it. But nothing on the west coast for a while. So, this past summer, in some discussions with people on another forum, I decided to try a west coast event. Found the perfect hotel in S. Lake Tahoe (968 Park, how cool is that?), a local 968 owner checked it out and approved it - I wanted a scenic destination so people will enjoy themselves more (lots of 968's in LA area but really?). So there is no cookbook for this. But I'm not flying blind. I've chaired the AZ PCA Region Flight weekend a couple of times, now organizing another Porsches2Prescott event, and run a number of other events. I chose not to make it an "official PCA" event for a couple of reasons - not all 968 owners are in PCA and I wanted it to be inclusive, but PCA is helping to publicize (Jeff's wonderful newsletter, Zone 8 calendar, etc), and sometimes PCA can be "too helpful" (see Escape now Treffen). Disclaimer, I'm a 28-yr PCA member, ex-region President and have enjoyed almost every minute of it :-)
So all volunteers welcome. And "organizers-in-waiting". There is absolutely no "ownership" here. I am shooting for low-key fun (scenic drives, scotch and wine nights solving all the 968 issues, meet other owners, build relationships, show and tell, did I mention scotch and wine? And we'll see where it goes from here. Expectations? I'd really like to see a couple dozen or more cars, the more people, the more fun everyone will have, the more momentum for future West Coast Gatherings. And this is a beautiful place to spend a weekend. Can't let the east coast guys have all the fun, can we? And, gosh darn, after all, we deserve it!

Back in 2002 I organized a 928 event in Eureka Springs (Sharks in the Ozarks).
No PCA involvement - just a bunch of us got together over a weekend. Had a couple of drives planned and simple prizes.

968's need a name like 928's have. Love "sharks". "Baby shark" doesn't cut it.

How in the devil did you park cars in EurSprgs? The streets are all 10% grade and 4' wide. Then they wind to nowhere. I twice drove a 38' RV thru that town and lived. But totally great town. I would help with a 968 event there.

So I'd prefer not to try to move this year's event - hotels arranged, notices sent out, routes planned, closer to me (the organizer), etc. etc. But certainly for 2017 it can be anywhere else, all that is needed is an organizer, which it sounds like 4kix66 has volunteered to do, and is more than capable to do. Far more than me. Come to this years event and lets all kick off 2017 planning.
