Default Pop Up Headlights

My friend just finished making this tribute to pop up headlights, and I thought the 968 fans here might enjoy since there is some 968 content:

men of boundless grace, skill, courage and conviction.... gave us the E-type....

they designed and built the GT California's..... and the Ford GT40.....

inspired by the angelic forces of the kingdom of God and chiseled from clay, they showed us the way.

then a generation of idiots followed them..... and these son's of Benedict's littered the world with the scourge of mankind.

thanks for the kindhearted effort. i'm sure you're a fine bloke come to this forum with the best of intentions.

still, sometimes we must state our convictions and tell the truth about what was clearly the most unfortunate era in automotive design.....

yes my dear brother: I took a sawzall to the Godforsaken 968 headlamps, and threw them in the dumpster.

Amen.

Haha, I knew you would chime in on this.
I've got to say I prefer a Miura a thousand times over an E-Type.

I'm with OD on this one - popup headlights are the dumbest idea since opera windows. A bunch of extra weight and complexity for no benefit whatsoever. Converted mine to fixed, and saved over 30 pounds from the front end.

More details please. I took my lights out completely on my track car and out some lexan covers on, but wouldn't mind putting some low weight lights back in at some points. Any pics of the install/final product? Thanks

Agreed. Pop-ups were the dumbest invention ever. At some point I'm going to pull an od and make them 911 style.

^^^I appreciate the indirect compliment.....

the 968 designers had a fixed lamp design in the works.

all I done, (and Travis a year later) was sneak into the design/archives (room), open the files, and jump the shark....

^^^ I didn't realize he did the same mod you did with the 993 fenders. Still looks good. In thinking something more like this though.

I detailed my fixed headlight conversion project here:
https://rennlist.com/forums/968-foru...version-2.html

Very happy with the result for a track car, but I'm not sure I'd recommend it for a street car.

Love the look of the 993 lamps in the 968.

On the list of to do's.

Must get Turbo setup sorted first, then we'll address the headlight mods.

I was surprised at the number of cars with pop ups that I had forgotten about.
I realize that I've owned four cars with pop-ups. Three 944s and one Dodge Charger R/T
