Default Rear Seat Delete?

Used the search button for numerous hours this weekend looking at a number of different topics, including this one.

Went off-site and looked at a few linked options that I found as well.

Notcied that apparently the 964/993 Cabriolet crowd have enjoyed a rear seat delete option that includes a couple of lockabe doors. Saw one post that indicated that maybe this was a factory option for the 968 Cab as well.

Anyone here know of anything more specific? As always, thanks in advance for your candid response.

I think the lockable storage bins were the default on the 968 cab - maybe the only option from the factory even. That said, I've seen conversions that add the back seats to the cab.

I'm sure Jeff can tell us more.

That is correct. The rear storage compartments were standard on the US 968 cab. Euro and Canadian 968s got the rear seats and the rear seat conversion on a US 968 cab is an easy one as the lab belt seat belt nuts are already in the floor (on 92 - 94.5s). I've done this on my cab.

Thanks for confirming Jeff.

This would be one of the enhancements I'd like to incorporate into my car (non-Cab).

Have any photos you could post of your installation?

All non-cabs (coupes) have the small rear seats.

Right...so, as I understand it - the Cabs had no seats installed and the area was covered in carpet while the Hardtops had the small rear seats installed.

Noticed a picture on the 968.net link where a small cabinet was installed in the area of the rear seats. This is the configuration I am after. No seats installed - lockable cabinet in the rear instead.

Okay, so you want to add the cabriolet glove box unit to a coupe. I'm not sure if that has been done on a 968 coupe and how it will work. It will probably will, with some modification. The unit is held in by the same bolt/nuts as the outboard lap belt. Of course, you'll have to find the glove box unit.

The cabriolet rear cubbies are not a direct fit in a coupe. It can be done but you do have to modify the unit and even then it does not sit level with the trunk floor.

^ It bolts in yes, but it does not sit flush with the coupes interior quarter panels.

Correct, there is about a 2" gap between the quarters.
