Ding-ding-ding-ding! winner, pay the table.
Almost. An adverb indicating close, or like or similar to the original. Almost scores in hand grenades and horseshoes. Collector cars? no, sorry.
But, I see that once again I'm in the small minority among the True Believers. An outlier, a skeptic, a frog in the punchbowl, an artfact, disbeliever, monopole, intransigent, and one who questions authority. I hope I'm wrong and it brings asking price today and someone drives off with it after shelling out +$100 large. Hope and change, hope and change.

I know the muscle car market as well. Take for example a 1970 Hemi 'Cuda hardtop:
1970 Hemi 'Cuda hardtop with original drivetrain - $130,000
1970 Hemi 'Cuda hardtop body with all the numbers but missing original drivetrain and has a 440 - $80K
1970 'Cuda hardtop non-Hemi car with an original hemi drivetrain installed - $50K.
The numbered body is worth more than the parts. Granted, it is a lot easier to get hemi parts than it is to get 968 turbo parts.

To add a little credibility to the argument, my car is currently insured for $130k agreed value. The insurance companies are not on the business to hand $$ out. They used their due diligence before they agreed to that amount. Obviously they saw some value in the mods.

Wow, you bought that from the ins co? I can get agreed value for just about anything if I'm willing to pay the premiums. Sounds like they are making a nice profit there. I've got a Ferrari that Hagerty will insure for $60k, as long as I pony up the premiums. It's actual value is about $30k. Don't worry, they factor in insurance fraud with the premium.

Doc and fellow conspirators,
since Raj has included his car into the conversation,
i'll offer an opinion; from where I'm standing,
I'd be very surprised if (Raj's car) were to fetch less than $130~$140 k at a legit auction,
with the right publicity and buyers in the equation.
and the car in the op? at least $100~110 k.... maybe more.
a lot plays into certain types of auctions, including, big money, egos, gamesmanship, and the wow factor.
and exactly what would be proven in the end?
I have absolutely no idea.

I'm almost positive that car was owned by one of our local PCA club members in the OKC area. Heard it is pretty quick and fast. I bet I can find out what kind of diffuser, gimme a couple days.

As I recall, Raj's car has a genuine Turbo S motor and a genuine Turbo RS tranny, not to mention a ton of other genuine Porsche 968 Turbo S/RS parts. It doesn't make it a Turbo S, but it's closer than any other replica out there. I'm pretty sure the Porsche 968 Turbo S splitter/rear wing/front nose with larger aperture, yadda yadda, are all NLA from Porsche Motorsport so you're SOL if you'd ever want to do a replica yourself today just cosmetically.

I wish the car was better documented in the ebay. Records, work done, engine build, transmission details, suspension details, dyno runs, engine management etc.
If someone bought the car to actually use it as opposed to garage art there might be a good bit of maintenance money it needs as is.
