968 spare tire rim
So Cloud, which one is the valueable rim? It looks like I have both styles.
On Minty, my 92 (#9 out of 2,008)
On Speed Yellow, my 95 (#2,052 of 2,234)

The spare with round holes is the one that the 356 Outlaw crowd loves. A modified set first appeared on a car showcased in Excellence. I just sold mine for $200. I later heard that the seller offered another 'lister $300 for his. I think a set of four fetches $1,000 to $1,200.

+1 to what Gene said. I've seen the ones with the round holes go for $400 each. The other is a lot more common - used on the 911s as well - and not sought after by the 356 outlaw guys.

I would not have guessed that. Minty has many unusual early production parts. I thought the speed yellow car would have all standard items. Which type of rim do you have? Is this a "by year" difference?

To reiterate what Gene said, it is the round-hole style that is the rare and valuable one. The one with the heart-shaped holes is worth $50 tops (maybe not even that), while the round-holed ones can easily fetch $200 - $300, due to their rarity and popularily with the 356 crowd.

Sorry to hijack the thread.......
Has any had to or thought to replace the collapsible tire due to rotting or leaking?
Now back to topic, both of my 1993's have had the round hole spares

My '94's spare looks to be in great shape, but I haven't tested it to see whether it actually holds air. I'm actually thinking of rolling with just a compressor, tire plug kit, and AAA card. It's worked well enough for all my motorcycle travels to date (mostly my exclusive method of transport for the past decade).

My cars an early one 1992. Originally a Japanese import to the UK, now in Sydney Australia (we get around). FTR mine has the early, I think sexier looking , 'minty' version.

Mine (round hole spare) came out of a '94 with no reason to think it wasn't the original one. It had been used (at least once). What is weird is that the 951 used a round hole version too (pretty sure about that). Its probably just a matter of who the supplier was at any given time.
Jeff, is there a date code on your tire?
I don't plan to use one with my current build and since the "other" spares are so cheap, I know I can always find a replacement if I decide to carry one around.

I've used these spares before and they hold up fine. I think being kept out of the sun keeps the rubber on them ok for a long time.
