Oil cooler fan?

Oil cooler fan?
Has anyone added an oil cooler fan to their car? I’d like to do something more with oil cooling. I figured this would be easier than going with a bigger cooler.
Fine on the street - kind of hard going on a hot day at the track.

look closely at your setup. you'll see the solution is to run a bigger cooler. but, after-market coolers for the 944/968 series are extremely expensive... a good solution is go with a standard Nascar transmission cooler which is a good size and shape for the space without shrouding the radiator too much.... or can be located to the driver's side area.... then fab a mount. dimensions are 11" X 6" X 2" ebay search: setrab oil cooler 50-619-7612.... Hendrick Motorsports and Rouch/Yates ebay stores have new and used units for short $$$... the 13" length[listed] is actually the lenth of the unit when the mounting tabs are still attached, but the actual cooler length is 11 1/8"... You'll need Setrab AN-10 adaptor fittings and some new #10 hose. but, it's a very good mod to do on our cars.

That looks good. I'm now thinking that a two cooler setup may be the way to go. I could stick it in the driver side space. Has anyone spliced the original oil hoses and made AN fittings out of them? They don't have the normal screw in coupler like the 951. I guess I could buy a used 951 oil filter housing - rather not though.

A fan will not help on the track as the air blowing over the oil cooler will basically negate whatever the fan is pushing / pulling through it. The fan will only help in stop and go traffic where you have no airflow over the core. Same idea as the radiator. Your fans shouldn't really ever turn on at highway speeds or even on the track (as long as your moving)... well maybe if your bump drafting and have no airflow over the core.. .
The only way your going to get better cooling is to either improve the ducting through the core, add another oil cooler or put in a bigger one.
Also try blowing compressed air from back to front. you might be surprised how much sand / leaves..etc clogs up the core.

Two coolers in series is by far the best approach. There just isn't a large enough opening in the bumper cover to supply sufficient air to a larger single cooler. Your best bet is to install a second cooler on the drivers side.

Not sure what the oil temp is. Basically so hot that my oil pressure drops to the three bar mark at WOT after about ten minutes on the track in 90+ degree weather. It's fine (>4bar) on cooler summer days.
Water temp is getting up there too. It has a low temp thermostat which generally keeps water temp towards the bottom water temp working zone mark. On the hot track days it gets above the upper limit. I wish I could get away with removing the AC condenser, but that is not possible. It’s a mostly track car which I drive to events in comfort
I'm using Redline 15W50 oil

i have a little more area opened up with my car, but still, i disagree... also, the flow resitance shouldn't be ignored...
and also easier to figure when you run one of these setrab units.... you just refer to the table.

I don't really think you should be having an issue. What is your water temp on the track? I have been racing a 968 since 2005 and have never had an issue. Now I am talking water temp as I don't have a sensor for oil temp. Have you blow-out the debris from both the radiator and the oil cooler? I run a 10w-60 lubro moly oil that is awesome. All season w/o a change and still looks pretty good (prpbably should get it sampled). What is your max water temp on the track?
