I've read this several times from several diff. sources....if you do a google search...you will start finding posts on other forums (pelican, etc) stating the same thing in regards to the 944's (sunroof cars being stiffer then non sunroof cars). One (or a few) of my front engine Porsche related books also mention this (i remember reading it). Will try and find which book/s stated this when i get a chance.

I got the same information about sunroof cars being a stiffer chassis a long time ago from a very reliable source who was Porsche factory sponsored when he was racing in the Firehawk series in the '80's. His word is above reproach, in my opinion, and he definitely had access to some of the factory engineering team when they were building these cars, so I am positive he knew what he was talking about.

I will shoot him a note and see if he will let me quote him by name as a source for this info.

The reason the sunroof delete cars were/are desirable is due to weight, not stiffness.

Regards, ...Scott

Thanks Scott, it just defies standard reasoning, that is why I questioned it. It would make sense that they would have to strenghten the roof when installing a sunroof.

Yep, just about every car is stiffer without a sunroof...with front engined 4cyl Porsche's being an exception.

There are at least two sunroof delete 968s (1 black, one speed yellow). I have the data, I just have to go through it to determine if there are more.

For ROW, I bet they are more common. For North American 968 coupes, they are very rare.

I'm a big fan of mint green, or any PTS/other wacky colors.

Default 4th car? Tiptronic cab I test drove new at Sewickley Porsche.

Of course, you know the 1 and only mint green cab:

Then there is coupe #1 which has been spotted a couple of times in CA and as recently as last year. It has black partial leather, painted crest center caps, sport seats, and a rear emblem delete option.

And finally, coupe #2, which surfaced just last year. This 968 has painted crest center caps and a black/cashmere partial leather interior:

It's very cool that all 3 have survived. Now this post serves as a virtual mint green reunion!

Jeff
I test drove a new mint green 968 at Sewickley Porsche but I could swear it had a dark grey interior and tiptronic. Are you sure about accuracy of this information? I have been trying to track down that car for years.
