Default Recessed front hood emblem question

Wasn't it just the early '92's that had them? Here is a '93 listed on eBay (I have no affiliation with this listing) that has one, any idea what the story is?

Good catch and no idea. Only 968s produced during September, October, and part of November of 1991 have the recessed hood badge. The guy claims original paint and you are right, it is there. The early cars also have a larger edged rear 968 emblem that this car does not have. i have no idea what is going on here.

im guessing the hood was replaced on that car. If the paint is original..it is possible the original owner sourced a white hood from an early '92. Original paint, not an original hood.

That could be it OR, original buyer saw a 92 and when ordering his 93 stated, "I'll pay whatever i have to to get that recessed hood badge like that 92 over there!", so, knowing that Porsche would do almost anything to sell a car (or so I'm told) they special ordered the hood on the car for him! Now, i don't really think that happened. I would bet the car was in an accident and the hood replaced. Someone is pulling the carfax now so we'll see.

My car has the recessed bonnet badge (originally a Japanese import to the UK), It's a 92 model, but was left hanging around in the showroom unregistered for too long. So in the UK mine had a '93 rego even though the car was a '92... can anything similar happen over there?

No, the model year is part of the VIN. N is 92, P is 93, R is 94, S is 95. If it was VINed as a 92 it would always be a 92 no matter when it was sold. Take a look at the production date on your door jam VIN sticker. What does it say? (Should be 9, 10, or 11/91)

Yup, my VIN confirms mine's an early car.

I see the story more clearly now. I was on about the actual number plates we stick on our cars over in the UK. SORRY!

Somethings to note, the trim on the drivers rocker starting to lift up and out says original paint there as does the faded rock decal on the fender, the rear cover sag by the muffler tip is common on cars that have had it off, usually for paint, maybe not. The front cover has sag which is a common result of no bat wing for extended time. I do not see it on the car. A sign of home grown repairs or front damage and no replacement. I have seen this due to the cost and limited parts like bat wings out there...the sag would be an easy fix with a good bat wing. Otherwise a nice looking car. Add in the hood badge to these notes and it may say front damage once upon a time.

Just some observations to consider.

Cheers, mike

Funny enough, my car was supposed to have the recessed hood emblem. I am the second owner and there was no record of it being in an accident until the idiot in the Lincoln Mastadon backed into me a few years ago. Any one know where I can find a recessed emblem hood? I would love to put one back on the car.

They show up every once and a while on eBay and other places? I can keep an eye out. What color is your 968? Do you still have your larger, edged, rear 968 emblem?

If you have the hood you should have this as well.

Horizon blue, but I'll take any color. I have an excellent painter than can make it look right. If I recall correctly, I have a build date of Nov '91 (last digits are 0404). I have the newer rear badge as well, but the only reason I think I should have the recessed emblem is because YOU told me I should.

Seriously, if anyone knows where I can find one, let me know. Any color is fine, as long as its straight.

Well, November is the cut off month so some have them and some do not.
