So, the starter is not engaging the engine although it is spinning fine when removed and 12v is applied. It appears the bendix is not spinning out???? Is there a repair, have this starter rebuilt or just replace???

Thanks,

Rebuilt starters from Porsche are very inexpensive and come with a warranty. It could just be a gummy starter syndrome.

My starter got GSS once and I tried the fix (open/clean/lube) but it didn't work for me, I had to just replace it.

I just called my local Porsche shop to inquire on a price, they don't sell rebuilt units but he would be happy to sell me a new one for $649.35

Guess I'll pull the starter and de-gum it tonight!

I just bought a rebuilt Bosch starter from Partsgeek.com for $199+core. Installed it yesterday. Mine was hanging up and was the original. Works great now.

1.5 hrs of labor in my garage and it appears to be working fine. I followed Bruce's Gummy Starter Syndrome thread and it was a piece of cake. Time for a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale

That sounds about right. Rebuilt usually around $175 - $200 w/core exchange.

Car started with no issues this morning. I did find a rebuilt through one of my wholesale hookups for $134 plus the core but the rebuild was easy enough. I did end up using a bit of grease instead of just oil so we will see how long it lasts.
