Yet another new owner
Just wanted to let the other members know that I'm new to both this forum and Porsche ownership. my name is Niels and I just purchased a 1993 968 from a California owner- he "might" have had a registration here on this site as well- not sure. well, at any rate, the car has high miles- 132,000, but has been well taken care of, service records and many mods. Its white exterior, with black/tan 2-tone leather interior- not many options- no LSD or M030, but it does have upgraded suspension, exhaust, intake, and a few other things. I had it checked out in Sacramento by Franks Automotive prior to purchase and everything was good, except it will eventually need a new clutch- which was worked out in the purchase price. I guess they can be as high as $2600 with a new fly wheel. no big deal- I got it for a good price and I'm ok with eventually replacing the clutch. My wife and I drove it up from California 2 weeks ago from Sacrament to Port Orchard, much of it along Hwy 101 and I can tell you its like a go kart- handles on rails- very impressive. So I've never owned a Porsche and my my mechanic suggested the 944/968 line of cars- so here I am. I'm ready to start driving it and enjoying all it has to offer- of course, I am going to fix the little issues with it, like the rear wiper motor, minor scrapes on the wheels and bumpers as well as refinish the drivers seat, but once thats done it's just drive an enjoy. anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself and and let all of you know I'm willing to take any advice, criticism you all have to offer, Niels
Congratulations on the new purchase! Welcome to Porsche ownership, and I wish you many many years of enjoyment driving one of the best cars ever built.
To start off...yes, a little advice. I think your mechanic may have suggested this car for you because your ownership of a 968 could potentially make him rich
However, if you are willing to work on it yourself a little, you can save an enormous amount of money, and they really are great cars to work on. And best of all, they'll last forever if taken care of.
Anyway, on to the most important subject: PHOTOS! Can we expect them by dinnertime tomorrow?

Welcome to Rennlist! Amazing knowledge and support.
Congrats on your new car! Give us some pics when you get the chance! BTW I don't consider 132k miles "high"... I've got 242k mine and 188k on the other one!
Keep it fed and it will just live forever.

It has been eluded to already but I would suggest using the search here and learn everything you can about the car. It will save you lots of money in the future. Even if you do not work on your car it is wise to take the initiative and know exactly what your mechanic is doing and give him guidance from this site. Congradulations on a great choice of cars. You are in rare company, I think the 968 is the best kept secret in the classic sports car market.
Welcome to the secluded 968 club ,like mention it is one of the best Porsche ever built but the forgotten one which in a way migth be an advantage, since peoples will keep asking you what it is.If well taken care off & not abuse with regular maintenance it will last a long time.Try not to fall in the trap off (over modify it) if need advices your in the rigth place.LOL pics should be send ASP otherwise you'll never hear the end of it. ENJOYE.

Welcome to 968 ownership....
Ernie's right. at the 24 hours of Daytona, people were stopping over many times to ask about my car and some even took pictures. people ask about my car often, (especially when it's freshly washed) but i found all the attention at the 24 hours to be a little strange considering there were already so many amazing cars there. (i saw a spankin' new silver Ferrari GTO)...
i speak often about making changes to the 968. most everything about the cars is pretty good, but the ONE part that really came bad from the factory is the steering wheel. (the 996 or Clubsport wheels really add to the look of the otherwise, dull interiors of the cars). for me i found some of the other parts a bit below the standards of what a Porsche 968 "could" be. i like going wider on the wheels. some guys here do more things in the engine bay and suspension that get less attention. i admire that... i haven't done so many of those things. i replaced the brakes when it came time to do the pads with larger, 928 brakes, then changed out a few of the suspension bushings including the caster blocks. at this point, the ride was so good i stopped there...

OK, thanks everyone, so I don't get harrassed when I'm only one day old into this forum, here are pics- they aren't good pics, but pics.
Oh, and I completely understand the rarity and exclusivity of this car. the previous owner, Robert, said the one thing about this car that surprised him most was the attention it got- and he wasn't prepared for that.
It simply amazes me as well- no crap- I have had no less than five people so far on the side of the road or side walk stop, look right at me in the car and gives me a thumbs up.... that is crazy- a 1993 old Porsche... almost 20 years old. what a trip! I don't think 911's get that kind of response. And, yes, years ago I read about these 968's but NEVER thought I'd ever own one- in fact I figured I'd eventually own perhaps a 928, but after doing the research- settled on the 968- for a variety of reasons I won't go into. well anyway, I'm going to attempt to post some pics I just randomly took with my Iphone- appologize in advance if they aren't up to standard.
