Conversations like this is where my old man always gets the better of me; I like to give him a hard time that my "half-engine car" can run circles around his on the city streets and on ramps, but when it comes to top speed there's no touching that S4's 300lbft of torque and tall gearing.
To me, top speed is like a fire. I will try to get close to it once just to see how it feels, then my curiosity is satisfied and I know where the limit is. Yeah it would be cool to say the extra 20 mph Porsche gave us on our speedometers is actually there for a reason......... .... but in the end I'd really rather have more acceleration.

That is kind of where I am Arash, I want to do it once. Had the car to 130 and it fealt great. At that time I did not know the car well enough to go any further. I want to do it once and that will be enough. How long will it take me to get to top speed. 3/4 of a mile? Hoping to find a runway somewhere to try it.

My eyes were focused on the road and the speedo, so I never looked at the odo to see how much distance it took. I would guess a few miles, at least. Getting to 100 is easy, but after that it accelerates slower and slower. Just going from 140 to 150 might take a mile or two, especially considering the speed.
A runway wouldn't be long enough. Not that I suggest it, but you'd need to do it on a deserted straight highway unless you live within driving distance of the salt flats.

I took my 968 up to an indicated 156mph when I first got it 11 years ago. It had 42k miles on it at the time. I still remember it like it was yesterday. I really didn't mean to go that fast, the car just took off. I started up a long uphill grade on the highway. Even with a 220 lb friend in the pass seat, the car accelerated pretty well and by the time I got off the onramp and onto the highway, I was going so fast I deceded to keep it floored. The 4 way highway (2 lanes each side with zero run-off on the left side and a 1/2 lane hard shouldner on the right) road crested and I was probably going 120 or so. After 140 I sort of centered the car between the two lanes and saw an indicated 156 on the downgrade. I had about 100 rpm's remaining on the tach before redline, max. The car felt incredibly stable , like it could go all day like that. BUt, I quickly ran out of road with traffic. Looking back, it was stupid to do that on a public road.

+1. The car's top speed is drag limited, not redline limited.

143mph with top down years and years ago. If I recall correctly 120mph came up pretty quickly. It took a while to get to 143mph. I believe I had the 16 inch wheels on it at that time??

I think the only place you'd see 150+ in an SP3 legal car is Daytona. In PCA E-stock trim I've run Watkins Glen, Road America, Sebring and VIR, all with long straights, and I've never seen anything much above 140 on the speedometer.

Here is the link to the youtube video with a top speed run. Idiots for doing it in that much traffic but the car is fun to watch.
