Default best chip for 968

Who has thoughts on what is the best chip to put in? I am not really interested in any of the chips that increase the rev limiter. I am just looking for the one that will give the best street performance in the 2000- 5500 rpm range.

Haven't seen one yet worth the money. Minimal results returned. Keep the stock chip.

Most popular appear to be ProMax and RSBarn.
Damien is running the ProMax and both of mine are running different RSBarn chips. And apparently Chris uses the stock chip.

Whatever chip you choose make sure your car is in good running condition before doing the chip.

I'd say with tuff economic times, support an American Vendor.
Keep your US greenbacks in America.

It's a global economy. Buy the chip that gives the most bang for the buck. My suggestion is also to just stick to stock and get your car in good tune 1st.

+1 You're not going to see enough of a performance increase to merit the expense. I would just spend $250 on maintenance items.

I've had the RS Barn stage1 for about 2 years now and while I didn't notice any real power increase I did notice (right away) that throttle tip in and idle was MUCH smoother as compared to the stock chip.

I think I am leaning towards the stock chip from what I have learned so far. I did a test run from 20-80 mph and got 10.55 sec. I started in 2nd and finished in 3rd just under redline. While trying to hold the stopwatch and shift I hope I got an accurate number. I think I did. With a better shift I believe I could get it to under 10 sec. I am running a test pipe and the air box mod. I believe those two things have definetly improved the performance from stock.

Assuming your car is in good mechanical condition, driveabllity (real word?) is way better on a chipped car. At least that is true with the RSBarn chips that I have and I have heard the same on here from those with ProMax chips. Really worth it in my opinion but obviously others here disagree.

Get up to Hershey April 24th or whatever days the 968 gathering is this year and I'm sure you will get a ride in a chipped car.

edit; sorry down to Hershey from Wisconsis.

We had an owner, Dan Davies, who did drive from Wisconsin one year; he had a supercharged coupe with RH wheels. Nice car, but I drove it and couldn't bear the supercharger whistle. He later relocated to Hershey, since he worked for the Hershey corp.

Promax,Racer X, & RS Barn are the 3 best chips. I was originally running a Promax 7700 Chip in my car. Was quicker, and much smoother. I've also driven cars with an RS Barn Chip...which gave similiar if not better results.

Now i'm running a custom tune/chip for my car (from RS barn). The best thing about the RS Barn chips are their trade up policy. If you plan on adding more modifications to your car, you can always swap your chip for a Stage 2 or 3 chip depending on your state of tune. If not, i'd suggest buying the cheapest chip of the 3 you can find. The differences are minor.

While i agree with others; make sure your car is running in perfect order before mods, i ca't agree that chips are noth worth the money. Outside of the airbox mod, a Chip is the best bang for your buck HP mod you can do to the car. The HP per $$ ratio is awesome imo

Before you decide not to install a chip, try and take a chiped car for a spin. I can assure you, you wil want a chip afterwords.

I have Autothority because they and apparently Weltmeister are the only manufacturers who make a chip for my car since I have one of the early DMEs. I can't say anything about power gain, even if I achieved what the claims are, it's such a small percentage increase to notice just driving around. I did notice my power curve felt smoother. Most of the reviews I've heard of the more popular chips make the same claim.

If you're car is up to date on maintenance, nothing else needs attention, you have no significant scheduled maintenance coming up and you want to throw some money at something, then a chip will make the car feel better on acceleration. Take these other guys up for advice on which one, don't go with Autothority.

If you're planning to upgrade headers, cams, maybe do some head work, you may be better waiting until you're done and then dyno tuning the car.

I have actually been to Hershey Park about 8 years ago on vacation but did not know about the Porsche gathering. My 944 was in a Coma for about 12 years so I was out of the Porsche loop. Hopefully I can work something out to make it. What I would really like to drive is a supercharged 968 if I went. I assume their will be a few 968's there with Carl's new SC system. Maybe even mine if I hit a quick $25K lottery ticket.
