Default Cheap 968 FS - Any Info?

I'm returning to Porsche and this board after a long absense. I've had many different models, but am currently shopping for a 968 and need help from some experts here.
There's one on Autotrader. 1994 Cab, red over grey with Tip,
Vin# WPOCA2964RS840197, 40,900 miles for $14,500. Don't know if's it's still for sale, but was wondering if anybody had info on this car and what the Vin # shows.
Any help/advice is appreciated.
PS...I know Tips are not as desirable, but I have a bum leg and need one.

Nowadays 14.5k isn't cheap for a 968, even with 40k miles. We've seen some low mileage cars with rare options or color combos going up for less. The market has really tanked in the past couple of years. There seems to be a lot of people selling some cars that would be really nice with a little bit of work for fairly cheap.

I don't know anything about this particular car. Where is it located? Maybe someone on here is close by. Since its a cab, Jeff Coe will be on here soon to give you all the details of how many cars were built with your color combos, ect and you can check out minty in his avatar.

Here's another on autotrader

Love the name 'royal indigo' rather than amethyst, and I'd check to see if it really is full leather.

Thanks Damian...
I'm looking for a lower mileage 968. A silver over black, white over black or blue, and red over black are my first picks. With 20 to 40 K miles.
Here's the link to Autotrader.

Thanks for any advice.

RS840197 is the #1158 of 2,008, 137th 94. It is an early 94, produced in May of 1993, originally a 93, reVINed as a 94 with option code 718. It is red (1 of 442, most popular 968 cab color) with a black top, tiptronic, am/fm cassette, classic gray partial leather interior (but 1 of only 13 red cabs with a black top and the gray interior), only one option, 437 full power driver's seat. Let me know if you need infor on any others.

Madison is in my backyard, practically. If you get serious with the owner I'd go give it a look. He also notes the car is looked after by a well known NJ Porsche mechanic; ask who that is, it could be Will DiGiovanni, which would be a good endorsement. And Will gets major props in the most recent Excellence magazine in the 944 article.

Curious why you're concerned with ultra-low mileage? At this point, those very low mileage cars are likely to suffer issues from lack of driving. We had that problem at first when we picked up my '86 951 with 68k miles.

If you're willing to consider the 50-100k mileage range, you can find some excellent examples for practically free. Like Todd said, the recession has NOT been friendly to the prices on good and excellent examples of p-cars, and you see them going for 2/3 or less of what they were worth 3 years ago. The 996 has probably suffered the worst of all lately.

I have to respectfully disagree with you Aaron that low miles significantly hurt a car. As long as something was kept out of the weather I see no harmfull effects to the mechanics for low miles as long as it was run every once in a while. I would love to have a 968 with about 400 miles on it. As far as the down side of 968's in general I just purchased my 968 for under $7 so hopefully I have purchased at the bottom and things will stable out from here. It needs some things but from my extensive search looking for mine over the last few months you should be able to find a quality low miliage tip for around $12. Good luck in your search as they are great cars that I think will have great collector value someday. If I am wrong about them being great collector cars that just means cheaper used parts prices for a car that we all know is a blast to keep on the road.

Got your pm and thanks for the info, but I'm looking for a Cab.

I am hoping somebody knows some information about the red cab I mentioned in my post. Anyone?

Thanks rgs. I've been following the ones on Ebay for a few months. But I want a turn-key, low mileage '94 or '95 cab with nothing to fix. My experience in restoring cars is you're better off financially to buy one already restored or an excellent original than to put money into one that has obvious defects.
With prices as low as they are now, I'm looking for the best one at a reasonable price.
