Default 968 Turbo S brakes on M030 car

Are the 968 Turbo S front brakes a bolt-on job on an M030 968, or are there adapters or mods required?

Thanks

I think bolt on, may need to change bias valve. Tell us about your car!

Yup, the Big Reds will bolt right on to the M030 spindles - you'll need the calipers, pads and rotors, and it would be a good idea to change to the 928 bias valve - it's the 5/33 regulator (928.355.305.02).

The 965 part # rotors from Porsche work perfect, 993 brake pads throw a little dust but will not sqeal and they stop really well on the street with a 5/33 valve! You can still get brand new Big Black or Big Red calipers for the 993 TT new from Porsche for less than most people sell used items. Thanks Sunset Porsche in Oregeon

Thanks guys, your replies are really appreciated.

I've had the 5/33 bias valve laying around for almost two years, because I've read that the ABS unit has to be cycled with a special tool after changing the bias valve (to bleed air out of the ABS unit). Is this BS or what?

Thanks again

I've changed it on 2 cars, and after bleeding the system with a motive power bleeder, have had no issues at all.

Similar to Stephen, I had no issues either, only the benefit of the Hands of God feeling when decelarating!

No problems here just bleeding the system with a pressure bleeder. Its probably because the brake fluid flows out of the ABS unit then through the valve to the rear brakes. Hence there is always fluid coming out of the unit when the valve is being changed, so there is no way air could get in. Just a thought.

Great, then the bias valve goes in fairly soon.

Thanks again

Will the 993 turbo / 928 GTS calipers fit on the M030 spindles without adapters?

Regarding the 965 rotors: is there an aftermarket rotor out there with an aluminum hat to save weight?

One last question: Was it your car featured in Excellence magazine earlier this year?

The 993 turbo / GTS calipers bolt right on the M030 spindles
The 993 TT rotors can be unbolted from hats and used with aluminum ones
My old 968 turbo S replica that I built was in April issue of Excellence

Thanks for helping me out

I've looked around for aluminum hats that will fit the 968 and can be bolted onto i.e. Performance Friction rotors for the 993 turbo. If anyone knows of a solution short of a machine shop, please let me know.

Try VCI/VehicleCraft. They do a lot of custom brake stuff.

Great, I'll try them out.

From the discussions above, it appears that the following list gives the biggest amount of braking power for an M030-equipped car without using adaptors:

993 turbo or 928 GTS calipers

964 Turbo 3.6 or 928 GTS rotors (both 322 x 32mm, with a 45mm top hat like the 968 M030 has). Part numbers:
964 turbo 3,6 965 351 045 00 Left 965 351 046 00 Right
928 GTS 928 351 045 01 Left 928 351 046 01 Right
Adding the 5/33 bias valve sends more braking power to the rear wheels, as the front wheels now has the braking power to lock up even 235mm wide semi-slicks.

Custom top hat on 993 turbo 2-piece rotors lowers the unsprung weight.

The weight difference between a 2 piece rotor and 1 piece is miniscule and might not justify the added cost. Also, if you go with 2 piece rotor, you will either need custom hats or adapters, definitely not plug and play.
