Default 944 -> 968 Franken44 Track build

Howdy doods...

This is the quick-n-dirty post of my Franken44's progress. Above all, I have to extend Tim (Lemming) and thank you for getting me to think of doing this. The process has been a blast.

So here goes.

The donor car: 1989 Porsche 944 S2 (147K on engine / chassis)

July 2008 - Tear down begins as I rip out the interior and remove...well.....everything. Carpet - gone. Seats - gone. D, all the above, GONE. This part -REALLY SUCKS. But is completely worth it.

Default August turns to September and then October....

The project continues as I repair rust, install CF front fenders and complete the painting of the interior. Simplicity and function is EVERYTHING.

The interior - priming begins...

Aahh....painted.

Rust repair. Fender replacement....
l Found this wonderful bit of cancer on the driver's side front fender. Immediately decided to replace the fenders. Luckily a Rennlister had a set of CF front fenders.

Ooooo....carbon fiber.

The car now goes up on stands....for a loooong time.

Fenders in place.

and the suspension arrives....

Default Dec-January

With the car on stands, major suspension work takes place.

-New control arms
-New coilovers from Ground Control
-New Axles
-New tie rods
-New braided brake lines

The interior is completed and prepped for the roll cage. Seats are fitted and I complete the carbon fiber door panels.

Suspension work complete:

Car is ready to go to J3 Motorsports for a Cage and more.

Default January 2009 - present

The car is dropped off at J3 Motorsports in Buford, GA. There, they guys install the following:

- replacement torque tube
- custom roll bar
- clutch
- suspension poly/delrin bushings

And...then...I decide to go with a 968 engine. I find a '95 968 engine with 55K on it for a great price.

Today - 03/27/09

Exhaust has arrived as well as all the parts to perform the swap. I hope to be riding in one seriously setup track beastie.

Thanks all. Here's a photoshop sneak peek at the final car. Stripes, wheels, etc. The only difference will be the wheel choice. I have a set of the Boxster twists that will be painted. Not the cups as shown.
