Revisiting the double-sided belt concept:

If there is a 968 owner nearby (I am in Wisconsin) I am interested in re-visitng the double-sided belt concept.

I wasnt able to reasonably do it before, but now that we have a new, larger crank pulley and an underdrive alternator pulley, I think we may be close to taking up the belt length needed to run a double-sided belt.

I have no 968 here to fit it to, so I need someone to drop one off if they are interested. The Owner of the Loaner would get the parts at 10% above my cost and the labor would be free.

Question

Carl,

this is a wonderful project. I read all 1000+ posts during the last few days. Please let me ask a question regarding all the 968s w/o A/C like mine - A/C has allways been an option on a 968:

Would a belt setup like that will be possible?

Best regards ... Bernd

You will need a different bracket (to Carl's kit) as the supercharger mounts behind rather than in front of the crankshaft pulley. You will also need an idler roller to increase wrap around the SC pulley. The benefit of the non-ac version is that you can run a normally micro-v belt (rather than use a double sided or try and run off the back of a single sided belt). I am about to install a Rotrex - the alternator hangs off the SC bracket and the bracket bolts where the normal alternator bracket bolts to.

That will not work as the SC will be spinning in the wrong direction.

My car came without a/c. To fit Carl`s kit you will need a compessor and bracket.
This is also the only way you will achieve belt tension

It was going fairly well, unti the clutch blew so that needs sorting now.
I have a revised pulley on it`s way to address the low boost issue, seems along the way I have ended up with a to larger one for the S1 install.
Other than that was going well, though low on power, boost kicking in around 4800.

Default Update on Stage II kit being raced

Just received this email from Stephane in France, racing our new Stage II 968 kit
with a Raptor V-L (Lightweight internals)

The result is astornishing, may be even too much. The car has never been that fast! On straight line I was nearly as fast as GT3 (415 hp). I was obliged to turn the Fuel Managment Unit to the reacher side because where I was at a 12 AFR value with the standard raptor, I was at 13 with the one you retrofited. So, there is a material difference!

My gazket finally broke at the end of the day, but it already showed some weacknesses on the 2 previous races.
So now, we know we can go as fast as the fastest stock Porshes the manufacturer sells today (GT3 and turbos).

We just have to go to a better gasket and an aftermark ECU.
I let you know what happens next and will send you the promised photos.

Stephane Serrano
Pics below are of his installation and his car. He got a pretty big air-to-air intercooler in there!

Good to hear a racing success, sounds as though he`s having fun, needs a GCS head gasket now.
The pulley arrived today, thanks Carl.
Once the clutch is sorted this should be it.
Can`t see how hes got the intercooler in there

Ed, your car is street legal, isn't it? Will you visit the Nürburgring by chance, so I can see it? ;-)

Looks like he moved the oil cooler and used that space to route the hot air around the RH side of the radiator. Neat! I wonder if a 2.5" hardpipe could fit into that spot with little movement of the stock oil cooler.

Hi,
My name is Stéphane TEXIER from France,
I'm a friend of Stéphane SERRANO who send pictures to Carl and this is my car
I still use a stock Raptor but next time, upgrading with light parts is expected
I only drive it on circuits

Is there someone here who can tell me, for a racing using, how many pressure whe have at 47000 rpm at the raptor wheel?

thanks

Carl,

do you have picture of the new crank pulley on the engine?
It seems to me very large, how do you put it with the cache timing belt? you cut it?
