Not just 968's or tips, it the whole automotive market in general including used parts.
Although that one looks like a steal.

Hey! I don't think there's anything wrong w/ the color because I used to have an amazon green 968.

Of course the economy plays a big role here but I think biggest reason why this clean base model 90k mile 968 coupe is listed for such a low price is that it's tiptronic and NOBODY wants one. The asking price is in 8v 944 territory and people wonder why these cars get parted out!

I want a tip. I think my mom wants one too. Except I want a tip to complement my 6-speed, she wants one to replace her 6-speed.

With respect to all past and current owners of Amazon Green Metallic, I'm not crazy about the color. If it was a color I liked I'd probably make an offer and fly over! If anyone finds (or has) a $5k 968 tip let me know!

Aside from me though, yes, 968 tips are unloved and getting hit hard by depreciation. I just noticed the seller has the car color listed as blue. Trevor, why are you still looking at 968s online? Give it up man! You already hit the jackpot dude, the rest is just blegh.

Its a steal if you want to maybe push it around for a while and sell it later if prices pick up. But with parts pricing down too, it makes it a little harder to predict what it would fetch in parts, too. Surely over $5k, right? How much can you normally expect to get if you part a 968? Anyone know?

I don't know... it looks a little rough around the edges (so to speak).

in defense of the tip. i really like mine..had a lot of stick porches and alot of tips as well. if im not on the highway, the tip starts out in 2nd, and all one has to do is upshift to 3rd, and then when i come to a stop or slow down below about 1100 rpms, it downshifts, and i do it again. i like it better than the auto mode, where the revs are always a little low... just my 2c

what is this?

Looks like clear coat peeling, but no clear coat on our cars - that could indicate a repaint and explain the price.

I almost bought a 968 tip, in some variation of green, from Park Place Limited near Seattle. They wanted $21K, I offered $18 and they wouldn't take it. Man am I glad. I now have a 6 speed and much prefer it over the tip.

All metallic colors got clear coat. All non-metallic colors got no clear coat (at least on red, black, and white).

Now you have me doubting what I said ... does someone know for sure?

I've always thought tiptronics would make the best candidate for 8v-turbo conversions. They already have the correct torque tube (changing the TT is a giant pain) and starter, they are usually cheaper to start off with, and the fact it does not come with a manual tranny necessitates the purchase of one, and the cheapness and abundance of 951 5-speeds would make me tend towards buying one instead of a 6-speed, the benefit being that the 5-speed's ratios are thought to be better suited to high power and high speed...... just a theory.
