Brake Recommendations?
Hi Giy's,
Can anyone give me any thoughts on the best rotor/caliper choice for a 968 with 16" wheels, or are the stock items the only ones available for this wheel size?
Thanks,
Steve

Steve, with stock 16 inch wheels, you can't go to anything bigger. Depending on your useage, you could change pads to a more aggressive compound. You can also consider going with cryo treated rotors.

For normal stock HP and street use the stock brakes are very good. But, you will here different opinions on this. When I first started doing track days and then racing I was using stock brakes. As I got faster and progressed the car I went to M030 brakes also know as big blacks or S4 928 brakes or is it GTS?? The larger brakes actually needed additional cooling to work correctly on the track.

My M030 brakes work fine with my OEM 16" wheels (mounted w/ rains).

Mike, good to know. I know they clear the 951 turbo S 16 inch wheels but I wasn't sure if they clear our 16's as well.
Also, big blks are 928 GTS rotors, which are identical to big reds. S4 calipers are a bit smaller and also similar to 951 turbo S calipers.

Hi Guy's,
thanks for the info. The reason i ask is i am fitting my 924 with 968 front hubs and Racer Edge Charlie arms. This is because i am building a 924 GTR replica, so 16" wheels is as big as i can go. The car weighs 2000lbs, and is a pure race car. The other reason for fitting the 968 hubs is their increased strength over the stock 924 items, and the inbuilt ABS sensors, which i shall be using for the traction control.
So concerning the stock 968 calipers and rotors, are these the same items as the 944 Turbo & 944 S2? And how do i tell if i have M030 hubs or standard items? The hubs i have came from a breakers, so no idea which 968 they off of. I'm guessing the M030 hubs will be a different part number?
Oh, and as i am having wheels custom made, the fitment can be modified, by 16" diameter if fixed.

Steve:
Stock 968 brakes should be the sames as a turbo or s2 i believe and at 2000 lbs should be plenty of braking power especially with cooling ducts. M030 hubs will have different part numbers. Check with Karl from racers edge or Pete from RS barn for spindles. I needed the correct spindles (M030) because my rotors were rubber on my Charlie Arms...ouch. I bought mine off the internet so keep looking.
Raj...I thought a M030 on a turbo S was the same as a M030 on a 968.

Yes it is Mike, M030 on turbo S is same as M030 on 968 which is same as 928 S4. The confusion comes when you call them big blks because they aren't big blks. Big blks are the ones that came on 928gts and are bigger than S4 and are same size as big reds.
Sorry if I confused anyone.

I have the adapters if you need them. They were on the car for a short period and are in as new condition. Let me know.

The info above says that the 968 M030 brakes will work with the 16's, but you will need adapters or M030 spindles to mount them as they mount from the top and not the side.

Steve,
Thanks, but this leaves me another Q!! What are the M030 brakes?? Are they from another Porsche model? And which disc rotors work with them??

M030 means sports package in Porsche nomenclature. These brake rotors are a little bigger and thicker than stock rotors. The calipers/pads are a bit bigger as well. Parts are very expensive and hard to find.
