Default Pricing

I was approached yesterday by a guy at a gas station about buying my car. I told him it's for sale, however I'm not actively selling it. I've been thinking about other options lately. I love the 968, but have been considering a change of pace.

My car is a 92 and has about 100k on the clock right now
Black over Tan, beautiful
The top end was rebuilt within the past 30k miles
Pinion in the past 20k
Brand new clutch with LWFW
Cup II wheels, Toyo's with 80% left
Lowered - H&R springs I believe
Custom Chip
B&B
New OEM 993 style skins on the seats
brand new mats
Amber Euro corners
Aside from a few dash cracks, the interior is as near perfect as a 92 DD could be.

I have all records. This car has been to 2 DE events and an 1 auto x event. Meticulously maintained and babied aside from that. I may be forgetting something, but you get the idea of the car.

I honestly have no idea where this car could be priced. Any help or comments is appreciated.

With the work you have had done I'd keep it!
But if you must, emphasize that the pinion has been fixed and the rebuilt motor.
Those set the car for a nice long time (you already know that) so I would sell for $10k-$12k.

I would start @ 15K and go down from there. You will more than likley end up in the 12's.
It is hard to go up from an "asking price".

I am getting ready to sell my 968, and I trying to figure out what I am removing and what I am selling with the car. I am going to wait till spring, winter is not the best time to sell a sports car. Although things are different in Florida.

Actually Smokies car looks nice. Anything but Red/Tan or Black/Tan. I could pickup smokies car and visit all the east coast 968ers.

You want to end up as close to $12-13k as possible. Its up to you on how much you want to negotiate. You can have an aggressive price and not budge much or have a higher price and let the person negotiate more. Sometimes the latter works better since some people just love to get over or get a kick a$$ deal. They feel like they did well.

Did any of you see the crazy low prices for the '92 cars in the latest excellence?

so-so 5041
good 5733
exc 7675

Almost as cheap as a '77 924! Must be a misprint.

They are out of their mind to think you could even get a so so example for 7675. Just the engine and tranny are worth that. I guess at that rate the rest of the car is for free.

Dude, I don't care how much I prefer '95s to '92s, I'm selling my car at 10k to by a '92 at 5k.

That must be a misprint. The only thing that I could see as a disadvantage to a '92 is the r-12 AC system. Some people prefer it but most people prefer the no-headache r-134a.

I would say R-12 is an advantage. It cools better than R-134 and you can get R-12 quite easily.

Well heck I thought I was at a pretty good price at $16,000 for my car but I guess I am way off base. I just can not imagine letting my 968 go for $10-12,000 these are such sweet cars . I just sold that 1991 BMW E30 sight unseen to a guy in GA for $17,000 and I think the 968 is a much better car all around and it had 112,000 no service history. These are the second least produced cars by Porsche only to the GT why are they not worth more?

I was thinking of setting a price of $15 to $16 and going from there....IF I had a serious buyer looking. I'd love to keep it, but me looking to change pace a little is going to a 911. I looked at 996's, 993's and 964's and I just don't know if I really love any of them more than a 911. Again, I'm not actively selling. I could own this car for another 2 or 3 years and be perfectly happy.

Its all supply and demand. There isnt much demand for them except from people like you and me who realize what great cars they are. Also, they might have been quick in their day, but don't stand a chance against most of today's sedans in acceleration. We live in a world where 0-60 and 1/4 mile times are given more precedent over handling and braking. These cars can handle with the best of today's cars and same goes for braking. They just lack the punch.
