A very nice or unique car may bring a significant premium, but you will have to wait until the right buyer comes along.

Also, something else to consider is, are there any pending issues that should be addressed in the next few yrs? Why not enjoy it when your ownership cost will be at a minimal. If all the issues have been resolved, now is the time to enjoy it, not sell it. Too many times we spend tons of $$ to get a car into tip top shape only to turn around and sell it. I am just as guilty as anyone for doing this.
I bought my SY coupe, spent a LOT of $$ and then when it was completely sorted out, I sold it. Unfortunately I was under a situation where it was just sitting around in the garage all the time. I felt it would be better to sell it to someone who could enjoy it. Guess what, now it sits in Leonard's garage .
Regards.

I got top $$ for my SY coupe. I was in no rush and waited for the right guy. It went to a very good home and I didn't feel like I got raped. I did lose some $$ but in the end I consider that my cost of enjoying it.

968s should be worth more, but they have been overshadowed by the Boxster. Boxster prices have plummeted... but the blow they struck to the 968's modernity has already taken it's toll. As they become more collector's-cars, they will raise in value again, I hope.

I'm into mine for $14,500, asking $18,000 but would let it go for $16,500 to an enthusiast.

Locally they are $16-$20 .. but they are dropping a bit now. We have inflated car prices in this city.

Not having the "true Porsche" aura associated with the 911 hurts the value of all the front-engined cars. Being rare doesn't help in this case, as people tend to think old+rare+Porsche = expensive maintenance.

I considered selling the S2 cabrio many times but decided to give it to my father back in 2003 and since then it "earns its keep" by taking him to work and back. It's not a 968 but right on par in rarity as roughly 6K of these cabs were made worldwide, and that includes the Turbo version.

Since the car has long been paid for, my thinking is to do all the necessary maintenance keeping it as much of a "free ride" as possible. At some point I think values will stop falling and even increase. Only then would I consider selling it, unless I need to for financial reasons.

Look at the 914s. They were often criticized for not being real Porsches or not being 911s. Prices of those have gone up significantly in the past few years. I kept putting off buying one, thinking I'd pick up a real clean one for $8k someday. Well, too late. I probably need 50% more than that, today.

Early 944 prices have gone up too...and they made plenty of those. The 968's time will come.

Todd, the 968 is too cool and scarce a car for it NOT to become a relatively scarce and very desirable car to own. The prices may go down for a while but they'll start rising again.

If you do a search on Craigslist, Ebay, Cars.com, etc., you'll find a zillion Boxsters. It's unbelieveable how many are being offered... But there never can be many 968s on the market. You're right... "The 968's time will come."

Driving a unique car is worth something too. I almost never see a 968 on the road, but 911s and Boxsters are all over. It'll be interesting to see what happens to the Boxster market.

I have seen 356's go from dirt-cheap to buy to being outrageously expensive, I guess due to rarity and/ or vintage. The 914's are now commanding a lot more than 10 years ago. With these trends in mind, does anyone believe the trend will eventually catch up to the 968's? Very few were imported and perhaps in a few years we'll see 968's selling for a LOT of $$$ compared to today. Maybe it's a good idea to hang on to the car and preserve what we've got - while still enjoying then no less. Just my $0.02.

H, my brother showed me that GIF on vwvortex once.

Stew - I agree. Now is the time to buy. I need to convince my brother to sell his GTI and buy a 968!
