Default Option code 398

I've seen a few vehicle information stickers with option code 398 on them, coupes and cabs. Now this is suppose to be some kind of suspension upgrade, not M030 but something less. I've looked in PET and see no reference to it. Does anyone have this option on their car? Does anyone have it listed on their window sticker? What do you think it is made up of? Jeff

According to Kindel's Porsche Option Decoder it is:

Option Code 398
Left outside mirror - electric - plain [Prior to 1996]
17 " 5-Spoke Wheels (P205/50ZR17 front, P225/40ZR17 rear) [1996]
18" Technology Design Wheels [1997]

Jeff, I've never seen that, but I had a similar option on my 85.5 944-stiffer springs and shocks, but not MO30. I don't recall what it was called, I'll try and dig up the Cardex.

The option was M474 on 944's to get adjustable koni's and stiffer/shorter springs.

398 is listed in Morgan's book as a suspension option. Porsche reuses the codes for different models so that is why the decoder gives the wrong answer. Still, I wonder what the package is and how much it cost???

I had a '94 968 with 398 and it is 17" cup wheels, that is all! Check out Porsche.com and then go to the factory classics and click on the PET you can then choose the 968 PET and go to the last few pages as this is where the option codes which were designated for each model mean!

A side note: I have a '84 944 sunroof delete car with option code 456 which is sport shock absorbers and stabilizers! So every model is indeed different and then the 944 series changes so much that there are early codes and later ones!

Is that option list in the PET application? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

You missed a page. It is there.

Shawn, thanks for pointing that out. I have PET 6.0 and had been to those pages but I had not noticed the option list. It is interesting to note that they used two codes for the 17"s wheels depending on the style. My car is a 92 with code 403 which they label as "Cast wheel "cup" 17". 398 is just cup wheel 17" without the cast??? So, I wonder if all 17" wheel cars from 92 - 94.5 have code 403 and all 17" cars from 94.5 - 95 have code 398. Morgan's book not only lists 398 as a suspension upgrade but also 17"s wheels. Jeff

In what main group, subgroup and illustration numbers in the PET app does it show the options list?

There are two PET versions. One is the PC app. The other is the PDF download from porsche.com. I haven't seen the options list in the PET app and jeff said it's there somewhere. I just want to know where it is in the PET app.

thanks Jeff,

if you happen to know,

how would you say the top of the line system for the 968 compared to stereos available for the old 944 (pre '89) ?

My '88 NA had the same 10-speaker set-up, at least one under-seat amp, and a Blau cassette head. Sounded like virtually the same system as in our 968's.
