[QUOTE=Damian in NJ;7591998]While I don't agree those are the 'ultimate' wheel for 968's, I have to say it's the most versatile wheel for Porsches-it looks great on 996, 993, 964, even the 944 variants. [QUOTE]

Can anyone remember the first 968 owner to put them on? Smuck007 did back in the earlier .net days as I recall. StephenZ maybe?

The other 18" wheels (oem Turbo S speedlines, BBS LM's, RUF Classics) i like are all heavier then the 993 Hollow Spokes in the same size, which is why i ended up with the 993 Hollow Spokes.

Sorry to disagree with u all...
the best looking wheels are the Sport Classic (taken from a 993). It just brings that x factor of vintage with modern. 7.5" and 8.5".

A lot of you are posting 3-piece and/or Y-spoke wheels...I certainly love both of those, particularly Y-spokes. The BBS RGR is probably my favorite wheel ever.
I actually don't even like 5-spoke wheels MOST of the time. The reason I'm convinced the 18" Carrera is the best wheel for the 968 is that I believe it helps keep the car from looking dated. The Y-spoke or 3-piece wheels look great, but I think the "busy" appearance risks dating the car a bit. The simple, aesthetically "lightweight" appearance of the Carrera, with its open look and VERY narrow spokes, is very elegant in an understated way that flows well with the 968's fluid curves.
The 944 is a very in-your-face '80s car, but the 968 could easily be new, so long as you keep the headlights retracted and find a good set of wheels for it...
At least that's my reasoning, probably other people with other tastes won't "see" it.

I know this is an old thread, but hopefully I can use it as a spring board for someone to answer my question. I'm currently running a staggered 18" set-up on my mostly-track car (8.5" front, 10" rear, Enkei NT03's). They're beautiful wheels, but their staggered set-up prevents rotation front to back, and since I wear out my fronts a lot faster than my rears on the track, I'm seriously considering going to a square 17" set-up to ultimately save on tires costs, and I'm hoping that the reduction in unsprung and rotational mass will overcome the slight reduction in grip. I'm considering a set of 17 x 9" all around.
Being a track car, if I go to the trouble of replacing my wheels, I want to go with the lightest wheel available that will handle the rigors of the track. So, I have a few questions:
- Among the choices listed in this thread, does anyone know which is the lightest wheel available in 17 x 9"? Please provide actual data, not guesses or speculation, or a source where I could find that information. In the non-Porsche (and its oddball 5x130 mm bolt pattern) world, there are wheels in that size as light as 15 lb, and I'd like to get as close to this as possible - sub 17 lb, if possible.
- According to Raj, the offset that came on the optional 17 x 7.5" front factory wheels was 65 mm. What offset would I need for a front 17 x 9"? I have 944 Turbo S (so very large) calipers.
- Would I need spacers for the fronts?
Thanks.

The size of front wheels will somewhat depend on what kind of springs you run in the front. A 2.25 inch ID spring will provide you a lot of additional clearance.
You will have to try some firmness and see how it works. I have a set of track only wheels with slicks in the classified section. They are 10x18 wheels and they for with spacers. Take a look, it might give you some insight on what's needed.

Thanks, Raj. Did you actually mean to say i.d., or did you mean o.d on the spring diameter? I'll check them when I get home. I believe they're smaller o.d. than stock - they're 700 lb/in, on Moton Clubsports.

Forgeline GA3R... 17x9.5" 16 lbs. any pcd or offset of your choice. 17x9 would be a tad lighter I gather.
You gotta pay to play though for strong, light, 17's with custom Porsche pcd.
Scroll about halfway down the page here for more info.
